A little strange for a FO built on solid scouting to go all in on Free agents. Last year's plan should have been this year's plan, and this year's should have been last (given that Idzik had no scouting ability and this FO does0

It's sad to think about what could've been accompliished with last year's draft had this FO been in place. Oh well. There is still time for some players drafted last year (McDougle, Evans, Dozier, IK) to become contributors so it doesn't look as bad as it does now. And if Amaro and Pryor can up their games, it may actually look halfway decent.

Right, and they have to spend this year and next or they end up having to give back pay to the players on the roster from 09-14 (I think). And, again, no real money committed past 2016, so very possible to take care of Mo, and continue to build through the draft.

Last year's plan should have been this year's plan, and this year's should have been last (given that Idzik had no scouting ability and this FO does0 we wont have any comp picks next year due to this year's spending, but remember to get comp picks we have to lose free agents too. the only free agent we could have possibly lost and netted a 2016 comp pick this year was Harris. but with the inevitable spending we had to do we would have never got anything for him. next year the only FA we could lose and net anything for is Coples. so in short the liklihood of us getting any comp picks any time soon is slim to none. who did we lose of any value last season? nobody. comp picks are reserved for teams who draft well, because teams who draft well lose good players in FA. and we haven't drafted well. so we have no one good to lose in FA.

I really like the way they are going about things here in 2015. They are making the team at-least-solid in FA (QB hold-the-fort; DB spectacular, but in some spots old) so that the draft can focus on talent rather than upon filling a gaping hole.
Last year we had lots of cap room instead of players. This year we are building a solid enough base in FA, that our next season does not cling on the development of a rookie pick.
Ironically, the money to do it right is thanks to Idzik. Imagine if he had spent all the FA money on pickups no wiser than his draft choices!
Now it seems that we have the guts to spend some money and the intelligence to select good players (that sometimes cost some bucks). The football guys are in charge.

Idzik seemed to handle FA pickups (when he made them) okay. With some exception like Chris Johnson. He had much better advisors for free agents (Rod Graves who he hired and is still with the team) than he did with scouts/draft. I'm sure he had plans to spend all that money this year as well, just never got that chance.

From day 1 Maccagnan said they would be major player in free agency. From his opening presser. Plus we had to spend bi( money to get our cap spending up to league mandates.
