Nice depth signing. Nice to have someone who has played the position behind Brick & Breno.

A nice depth signing as a reserve swing-tackle. An upgrade over what we had last year.

injuries at DB and OL can cripple a team, as we have witnessed first-hand the past few years. good to see the new regime taking steps towards fixing the depth problem we had at those spots.
looks like there will be a lot of competition for playing time at G and RT, hopefully some of the younger guys like Dozier and Aboushi are ready to step up.

Exactly. Tons of bodies but no real standouts right now IMO. Breno, Aboushi, Colon, Carpenter, Winters, Dozier are all in the mix for the 3 spots not occupied by Brick and Mangold. Carpenter looks to be a lock to start at LG but I think our starting OLine in Week 1 still has some mystery.

It's moves like this that allow us to go BPA during the draft. Think of all the needs we came into the offseason with:
Secondary - taken care of #1 WR - taken care of OL depth - taken care of Vet QB competition - taken care of
What are our needs now?
Edge Rusher - plenty in this draft, especially at #6 Young RB - maybe round 2? Young QB - Marcus at 6? Grayson, Petty, Hundley rounds 2-3?
We've got a lot of flexibility in this draft now.

Concur...I'd still like to draft a offensive tackle in round 2 or 3...a road grater type.

We might have built some OL depth, but the starters are still very weak. I'd have liked to see more emphasis in free agency. Maybe Macc has found some diamonds in the rough or the kids step up, but right now I'd consider our oline well below average. Outside of Mangold and Brick ( who might just be average), we are well below average at each of the other spots. The skill positions are decent but without a good oline, I fear the offense will look very similar to last year.

Well below average is a bit of an overstatement in my opinion. And to say that DBrick and Mangold "might be average" is lunacy. Mangold is still top 10 at his position in the league and DBrick is still one of the best pass protection LT's in the league. Carpenter has given up 1 sack in his last 23 games or some crazy number like that, he's not a great run blocker though. But in Gailey's offense pass protection is much more important b/c of the spread offense they will use. This is NOT a ground and pound offense anymore. The year Spiller put up 1200 yards with Gailey there offensive line was average. They had Levitre as their only above average starter on the line and started a rookie 2nd round pick as their LT. His offensive system will make the entire O-line look better b/c of it's quick throwing nature and it spreads teams out which naturally allows more room to run for the backs. I'm not too concerned about the O-line at all right now. I'm more concerned about finding a HB in the draft since at this point at the end of 2015 the Jets will have no HB's under contract.

The OL with the editions is VERY WEAK? While they weren't 09 good they weren't that bad and have signed a couple of players and still have a draft and summer cuts to add from.

What a change a new clean front office can do for an organization. We have set ourselves up perfectly for the draft. I love it

Apparently the Jets made a substantial offer to Iupati, but he wanted to stay on the west coast, so the Jets weren't in the hunt. Whomever signed Franklin from Denver (can't remember off the top of my head) paid a motza for him, IMO. Given that the Jets' secondary was a dumpster fire before free agency opened, I suspect that the Jets prioritised signing players to fix that once Iupati was off the market. I think Maccagnan has handled free agency as best as can be expected so far - he's signed a number of players to bolster the depth but given the Jets flexibility to shed players when their play starts to decline so that the Jets aren't hamstrung into the future.
