This is directly from the NFL handbook on Tampering: linkI think Kraft's comments, even in the past tense, do show that they were interested in bringing him back and continue to have interest even though he signed with the Jets. Not exactly what Woody said but still a version of tampering. The Jets, I'm sure, are hoping that these two cases cancel each other out and no penalty will be assessed to either team.

Hahaha. Power move by Woody. He apologized immediately after the whole stupid deal and they still filed charges. Fuck them.

Go listen to his entire comments about Revis and you'll see the little quotes people keep using for the source as to why the Jets are filing tampering charges are not the whole story. He actually says, "we wish he was still with us". Regardless of when Revis' contract is up that is clear tampering. Almost literally the same thing Woody said but nobody is using that quote. Check it out for yourselves. It starts around the 3:15 mark: Kraft Press ConferenceAlso at the 5:30 mark he gives the Jets an out on them saying that Woody's "tampering" let to Revis signing with the Jets. He compares Revis' situation to Wilfork in that he doesn't blame him for wanting to go there b/c that was the team that drafted him. Basically admitting Revis wanted to go back to the Jets and that's why he signed, not b/c they "tampered" with him. At 5:55 mark he says, "He's a great player and the fan in me wishes he was still with us". There is your tampering. There is an argument out there from Fagtriots fans and their homer local beat reporters that Kraft's comments were in the past tense so that's not tampering. This comment is not in the past tense and that's why they're not using it. Saying you wish someone was currently on your team is NOT past tense, it is very current. "Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club's player to that player's agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of the Anti-Tampering Policy."
Saying you wish a player was still with you is a statement of interest in that player. Tampering 101. I also think there is some confusion about what tampering covers. For example, most fagtriots fans think that the fact Revis signed with the Jets means they should get a harsher penalty. But the reality is that him signing has nothing to do with Woody's comments. Obviously an assumption could be made that it hindered the Fagtriots chances of signing him but the same assumption could be made that Revis wanted to go to the Jets all along and was never going to sign with the Patriots unless they blew the Jets out of the water with a contract offer. The Fagtriots still had an option on him and they literally held the power to keep him without him hitting FA and they let him walk. It wasn't a mutual option, it was a team option. They had the ability to make sure he stayed, let's not forget that. Also, the penalty is strictly based on what Woody said, not any actions that happen after. No where in the NFL rule book does it say penalties and fines could become higher if the team signs that player. I think that's been misreported and very misinterpreted by Fagtriots fans. The reason the tampering rule was put into place was to stop outside teams from hindering a players teams ability in contract negotiations. The league has to have concrete evidence that it did and how long before that player is a FA doesn't affect it one bit. They will have to decide if Woody saying he would love to have Revis come back made it more difficult for the Patriots to re-sign him. Obviously if you use your head the league could see that Revis was never going to re-sign with the Patriots prior to hitting Free Agency. Also, they would have to prove that the Jets somehow let Revis' agents know what they were willing to offer once he hit FA in order for it to be tampering as well. The Fagtriots fans use the tweet Mehta sent out as proof that the Jets leaked contract details to the Revis camp. Here's the article: Mehta Article . No where in the article does it say he got information from "Jets sources" that it would take $48 million over 3 years with $40 million guaranteed. He actually doesn't say anything about a source on that he says "for example". Suggesting it's his own hypothesis. Now, reading other tweets about it like this one: This tweet implies that the Jets had an understanding of what they needed to offer but that they weren't the ones giving Mehta those contractual numbers. Makes no sense to put "Jets Understood" if those numbers came from the Jets. So that shoots down that theory. Obviously the Revis camp was throwing out numbers to let NFL GM's know what he was looking for. If you think Revis only wanted $39 million guaranteed then you're out of your mind. I'm sure that was a number that was negotiated down from the mid $40's. So in summary, the Jets only "tampering" would be the Woody Johnson comments. But in my opinion that got negated by Kraft saying he wishes Revis was still with the Fagtriots. Similar remarks and to punish one without punishing the other would be a crime. I think both owners will get fined an equal amount and that's it.

I don't think either of these charges will result in anything, but I can see the Patriots winning theirs and the Jets login a late pick. Theirs certainly holds more merit even though I think Woody's comments were honestly harmless. Who wouldn't want one of the best players (especially a former one) on their team. I know the rules state you can't talk about another team's players, but I truly believe Woody was just answering a question and had a small lapse in judgement. I don't think that the Jets seriously tampered and had legit conversations with Revis, other than what is probably common practice around the league like indirect conversations that involve interest.
What the Jets did here may seem immature, but I like it, a little tit for tat to keep the rivalry interesting.
It does come off childish, that two older billionaires behave in this manner, but I think that's just it. They are billionaires, they are bored. Might as well pick on each other.

Makes no difference, you either tampered or you didn't. There isn't a you tampered worse here. Neither team will be found guilty, Woodys not getting fined for his comments and the Jets just want to show what kind of cunts the Pats and Kraft are.

it's just a stupid rule by the nfl. like the players don't know which teams wanted them. the only thing that could have been strange with revis is if he felt he owed anything to the patsies for giving him the chance to be on their team. clearly there wasn't. he got 12 big ones for playing with brady and it paid off with a ring. a second ring wasn't worth the decrease in pay he would have needed to take (vice the jets) had he stayed with the patsies.

Their statements were almost identical...
“Darrelle is a great player, and if I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for [what the Patriots paid], I probably would’ve taken him,” Johnson said
“We thought we made a very competitive offer,” Kraft told reporters while speaking at the NFL owners meetings. “I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots — we wanted to keep him. We wanted him in our system, and we have certain disciplines."
