So much influence on the Jets roster, doncha know? And alwasy all on the defensive side of the ball, ignoring the offense. I wonder what other behind the scenes moves we don't know about?

Lol. Good preseason tape. Well we all know how serious rex takes his preseason games. God I'm so glad he's not making our decisions anymore. Love the guy, but just awful at building a roster/team.

You're right. He didn't totally ignore the offense. Unfortunately, when Rex did get involved it was usually an effort to run a 1950s offense.

Many say that the worst thing about Rex staying in the division is that we have to face his "great" defense twice every year or that he might learn from his mistakes and become a great coach. I'm not worried in the slightest about that. The worst thing about him staying in the division is that we have to keep talking about the fucking guy.

I keep reading and hearing on NFLN who Rex is signing, drafting etc. Doesn't Buffalo have a GM? In the rush to draw off of Rex's name recognition why is he now coach and GM of the Bills?

www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2015-04-05/buffalo-bills-quarterback-competition-ej-manuel-matt-cassell-tyrod-taylor-rex-ryanIf they have 4 QBs, they have none. Fitzmagic is better than all of their scrubs. “I’m lining them up to literally have a competition for the position,” Ryan said, according to The Buffalo News. “People will say, ‘Well, is this guy ahead of the other?’ There’s going to be assumptions, but the great thing is, let it play out. Give both guys the opportunity and then at the end of the day, the cream will rise to the top. It usually does.
“And I think, by then, you’ll know who to make your starter.”
One of those players is Taylor, who has spent the previous four seasons as Joe Flacco's backup in Baltimore. The Bills signed him this offseason and gave him an incentive based contract. He could earn as much as $7 million in two years if he gets named the starter.
Ryan talked up Taylor's abilities to The Buffalo News.
“Tyrod Taylor’s kind of a wild card," Ryan said. "Nobody really knows [about him]. All I know is he’s the fastest quarterback in the league. He’s had some good tape in preseason in particular. Didn’t play so well the one [regular-season] game he really played [against Cincinnati in 2012]. I tried to trade for him when I was with the Jets. I think he’ll have a chance.”
This isn't the first time Ryan's admitted to trying to trade for Taylor. In March, he was on Toronto radio station FAN 590, where he discussed the possible trade and made a point to compliment his athletic ability.
"He's got great run skills," he said. "I'm not going to say he's Russell Wilson, but he's got a little of that in him where he's able to run zone reads and pull the ball down and be effective."
The 26-year-old athletic quarterback said at that time on a conference call that "no one is really ahead of the other guy right now," when speaking about the quarterback competition. That statement echoes what his coach is saying.
Whoever ends up winning the job will have some new weapons to utilize this season. The Bills acquired LeSean McCoy, Percy Harvin and tight end Charles Clay this offseason.

Maybe no real football GM wanted to work with Rex Ryan because they understood that he can't simply turn off his desire to get involved in roster building. It works both ways. Every coach gives input on who he wants on the team. I don't see why this strikes some people as unusual or something a GM would expect a coach not to do. The Taylor trade says interesting things about how Buffalo's QB situation will pan out. If Rex has been after Taylor for a while then it's unlikely Cassel or Manuel will be seriously considered to start unless Taylor is a total flop and Rex feels like he is another Geno. He does seem to be a capable runner and decent with a zone read so he sounds right up Rex's alley. I hope he does not pan out for Buffalo but if he turns out to be a great QB then there will be a lot of crow consumed around these parts over Rex's terrible roster involvement.
