Smith evaded a question about Marcus Mariota being that addition and added that he was looking to Fitzpatrick as a teacher thanks to Fitzpatrick’s “better understanding” of the offense
That's it Geno, just keep pretending that you're the #1 QB and hope that Fitz and Marriota or Petty or Hundley or Glennon will be overlooked. Last chance this season, buddy. Put up or be shipped out.

I could see Fitz maybe b/c he knows the offense and is really smart but he still turns the ball over a ton and is not nearly as physically gifted as Geno. Jets fans should be praying Geno works out this year or we're fucked. Mariota is not ready to take over an NFL offense and if the Jets draft him and he starts we win 6 games max this year. If Geno progresses, makes more plays and limits his mistakes I could see winning between 8-10 games.

I hope the Jets don't take Mariota he has bust written all over him no QB coming this year is good enough to start week 1. Also Geno has 2 years Jets are giving him another year before they pull the plug. If Geno falters the Jets are screwed.

Hes is not great, not trying to make him great, but he's the best QB on the roster.

I'm not saying Mariota is bad and that he will be a bust I'm just saying he's going to need to sit for the next couple of years if he goes anywhere besides Philly. If the Jets draft him you let him sit this year definitely and make that announcement as soon as he's drafted. This would be a redshirt year for him, no expectations. If Geno plays great than Mariota is a trade piece down the road. If Geno stinks they can use a guy like Fitz for the next couple of years to bridge to Mariota when he's ready. But as far as expecting any of the QB's in this draft, besides Winston, to contribute in a meaningful way and succeed over the next couple of seasons that's not going to happen.

And he'll hopefully be working with Ronald McDonald this next offseason.

And he'll hopefully be working with Ronald McDonald this next offseason. So you hope Geno plays bad? Wouldn't it be best case scenario for Geno to play well? With a spread based passing offense don't be so shocked if he does play well Chan has done impressive work with lesser talent.

Even if we draft his replacement you have hope Geno plays as well as some think is possible and Mariota whoever can sit while we win games.

Fitzy reminds me of Vinny when we acquired him. Vinny was known for his turnovers
Hopefully we catch lightning in a bottle again with this guy

As much as we may not like it, our best hope still lies with Geno Smith. The problem with Geno is consistency. If you watched his 3 worst games from 2013-2014 you'd ask why he was even drafted into the NFL. If you watched his 3 best games those past two years then you'd ask why he wasn't taken #1 overall. The guy has shown that he can make all the throws, that he can evade with his feet and run when needed, and that he can stay calm under pressure.....he's also shown a great ability to throw to guys in opposing jerseys and to make really dumb decisions.
It's his third year, he's been working to get better and he has a new coach. This is both his last and best chance to show that he's the right guy to be starting QB. As Jets fans we should all want that to happen.
You can feel however you want about Geno depending again on which games you watched him play. But if you want some positivity....some cautious optimism then it's this....Third year, new coaching, much better supporting cast of players (add Marshall, a 2nd year Amaro, etc.).

Yes he's had bad stretches but let's not act like he's worked with the greatest supporting cast either. What are Hill & Holmes doing these days anyway? Keep putting talent around him and then make judgement.

Keep putting talent around him and then make judgement. Outside of the dazzling MNF performance @ ATL all of his success came when the season was over and there was no more pressure. Not to mention what happened in the whale's vagina. Anybody that has given up on Geno is well within their rights. And before you accuse me of being a Geno hater, you should ask around.
