The closer we get to the Draft the more hyped and repetitive some of these trade rumors get. Both Cutler and Philip Rivers seem to be floating around as trade bait to move up for Mariota. If both the Bears and the Chargers want Mariota then they'd likely have to move up to #2. But both teams have problems in that scenario. The Chargers would be trading up from much further back, but they have Philip Rivers who is a better QB. The Bears would only be coming up from #7 but they'd be including Jay Cutler in a deal. I wonder if there's any scenario in which Mariota drops to #6 and the Jets entertain phone calls from either the Bears or Chargers. I don't think I'd mind dropping one spot and adding Jay Cutler to our QB competition. Not even sure if that's a realistic trade scenario (Cutler for moving up one spot, although the Bears seem like they want to unload him). IF that somehow became a possibility I'd guess that Brandon Marshall's opinion of Cutler would have a lot to do with whether the Jets make that kind of trade. www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25138932/report-bears-interested-in-marcus-mariota-could-trade-jay-cutler

They seem desperate to rectify that horrendous blunder otherwise known as the Johnny Speedball Era, so I would tell them they can have the pick for a 12 + 19 + a second this year + next years 1st. People will say that's nuts, but I'll tell them to fuckin take a look at the Rams haul for RGIII. And that was a smaller jump for Washington too. I think even Touchable would take that deal. Make them all compete with each other for the pick, and if they don't give up the goods take Mariota for yourself.

The personal fit between Philip Rivers and Tennessee is much better than I originally knew and is fueling that trade rumor...
1. Philip Rivers is going into the last year of his contract and has communicated that he does not want to play in LA if the Chargers move there. 2. Rivers is a family guy, likes San Diego, and would only consider a very few other destinations....one of them is Nashville, where he married his wife. 3. Rivers best success in San Diego was under Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt in the mid-2000's. Whisenhunt is now the Titans head coach.
Finally, I heard that Mariota is having a private workout with the Chargers. Why would Mariota, an expected Top 10 pick, go work out for the team with the 17th overall pick....unless that team may come up to #2?
I could see this deal going down.

It's only because he's a QB that he's going to get picked so early. There are 10 better players in this Draft in my opinion. I'm secretly hoping he's gone when we pick just so that we don't have the "Murphy's Law" situation of taking him when a few other future Pro-Bowlers are still available or letting him go by and watching Mariota become a SB winner for the Rams or someone else. If both Winston and Mariota go at the top of the Draft like they might, then we are GUARANTEED to have a choice between AT LEAST THREE of Leonard Williams, Dante Fowler, Amari Cooper, Kevin White, Shane Ray or Vic Beasley. And I think all of those guys are worthy of the #6 in this Draft. With the exception of Williams (who is the best player in the list and also likely gone) because we have a solid DLine, any of those guys would help the Jets given our OLB/Edge and WR situations.

God...the Bears are so royally screwed with that Cutler contract....lolzer! Right! I honestly don't know how that helps them to trade their entire draft to move up to #2. It actually should hurt them.

I would be suprised if Mariota drops to 6, too many teams appear to be interested.

I would not be against us taking Mariota if he fell to us at #6 but only if we were willing to sit his ass and let him learn. I like a lot about his game and think he has potential.
But I would also not be upset if he was gone by the time we pick. There are several guys who could fall to us that I would love to see us select, like Fowler, Ray or Beasley.
But I don't think there is much of a chance of us being able to fleece a trade partner who wants to move up for Mariota like Cleveland, St. Louis, or Philly. IF anyone is so sold on Mariota that they are willing to get fleeced, I can't see them waiting for a QB needy team like the Jets to trade with. Any team that wants him badly has to fear that we might take him. So if they are willing to be fleeced, why not move ahead of us?
Now if a team was willing to get fleeced, I would be all on. But I just don't see it happening.
Damn, I love this time of year. I think about the draft and hockey constantly!

I would be suprised if Mariota drpos to 6, too many teams appear to be interested. Could well be true but there is always so much bullshit flying this time of year. It's hard to believe all the speculation. Teams ahead of us that are not looking for a QB would love to either have a team trade up to them for one or just hope both QBs are taken before them so that another player could potentially fall to them. Disinformation on is all part of the game. Edit: by the way, your avatar comes from one of the greatest movies of all time.

first, I might like Rivers in a trade, but no way for Cutler. I'm set for White or Cooper, QB in a later round.

On #3, Rivers was drafted in 2004, but they do have that connection from the Chargers.

I'd think the Bears are desperate enough to unload that Cutler contract that they would make that trade exclusively for that purpose. They could trade away Mariota and make back the equivalent of all those draft picks. That contract plus Cutler's performance are two terrible albatrosses around that team's neck.
I would not be into this trade. I definitely do not want Cutler and I don't know what we would do with all those draft picks. We shouldn't spend twice as much this draft taking in all those other picks nor should we allocate time in a new regime to testing out a bunch of late round guys who will probably get cut. Let's pick somebody with our first round pick that can be a part of this team for a long time coming.
