Have already announced that Mariota is the guy Day 1...no competition.

Whisenhunt must be ready to throw out the offense he's been running for years and go with the spread.

Heard that yesterday. Supposedly it came from the owner.
I liked Mariota but think he needs at least a year on the bench.

This is what bad teams do. I see absolutely no possible upside to making that statement and a whole lot of downside.
Thankfully it appears that the new regime is pretty mum on this kind of stuff.

Why is this a surprise? Rookie QBs don't sit anymore. Especially when you're picked that high.
The most they would sit is half the season.

This sitting BS is overrated, QB's sit when a team already has a viable starter. Rodgers sat because they already had a HOF QB, if they had no solution when they drafted Rodgers then he would have started. If you take a QB that high and have no answer at the position, then you start him.

No argument you might *want* him to start.
But anointing him the starter before his first OTA, let alone training camp and preseason games? What if the guy can't read a defense yet? It's one thing to say 'open competition' but to hand him the keys is just pandering to the fan base and putting yourself in a position to either go back on your promise or worse, start a guy who isn't ready and possibly ruin him. Yep...makes perfect sense.

I'm not really sure how the Titans had a great draft after taking 2 huge question marks early on.
