Now that the draft is out the way, this automatically becomes the main topic of our team for the time being.
What do you think happens with this Wilkerson scenario? Do you think Williams being drafted was just better contract leveraging to eventually extend Mo or do you think the Jets want Williams to replace Wilkerson, so he can be used as a major trade piece for maybe a QB next season ?
When I say QB, I mean any quality starting QB. Say maybe if Matt Ryan's time runs out in Atlanta or maybe Andy Dalton? Maybe even to draft the highest rated QB? Obviously options using Mo as trade bait, but what's everybody's opinion.
I personally think we keep him and extend him next offseason.

I think they drafted Williams bc he fell to them. I doubt it has anything to do with Mo's contract status. I think they will extend him and I think the guy they will look to trade next off season is Coples.

I hope Williams can disrupt like Abraham. This is shaping up to be a monster line; let's enjoy the ride.

There may not be an explicit plan in place right now. Williams' drafting means the team has options. Coples could go. Wilkerson could go. Having those options means our need to pay big money to Wilkerson goes down and he's going to have to produce more to earn that big paycheck everybody expects him to request.
Absent any incredible opportunity to trade Wilkerson into a QB of equal worth to the roster I think we hang on to Wilkerson without a contract until the next offseason and then re-sign him based upon his 2015 performance. Coples pretty much has to go unless he suddenly turns into a great player. His contract pays $7MM next year. There's no way he is worth that. You can basically dump Coples and use part of that money to finance an increased salary for Wilkerson.

Love Mo but he's getting traded at some point IMO.
Get a 1st for him and pump it into the O-line, preferably on Mangold or bricks replacement.

imo people have forgotten that the jets lost ellis and so grabbing williams can be considered drafting to need as well as bpa. as for wilk, i think it's safe to say they'll look at his contract rationally. williams gives them some leverage they didn't have before and he's still under contract for this season. next season they could frachise him and that wouldn't be such a bad payday. the problem is the jets have 2 or 3 blue chip players all going for big money within a year or two. i don't know enough about the cap to say how all of these guys can be satisfied but one obvious way is to trade one while the market is hot and hope to get some really good draft choices. the patsies were pretty quick to trade seymour and that seemed to work out pretty well.
i only know that if the choice of who to re-sign is between wilk and coples, then wilk stays.

The Jets will try to take care of Wilk, but not JJ Watts money.

I'm more worried about losing Richardson then coples ..

The Jets will keep Mo and Sheldon. They'll also get Mo signed before the end of this year. With Williams next to him on the line, Mo will have a huge year because teams will no longer be able to key on doubling him with the addition of Williams. Jets will get him signed before he really demands ridiculous money after a huge performance next year.
Mo...and his agents....know they're not going to get JJ Watt money.

Mo is a Jet in 2015. Mo can be franchised in 2016. Mo can be traded at any time.
The Jets have all the leverage and major trade bait. I think they negotiate with him from the standpoint of, "we'd love to have you and we will pay you fairly....but if it comes down to it, we probably don't NEED you."
