Anyone check this out yet?
Smacks the dogshit out of the majority of Superhero movies.
Really dark and has some incredibly badass fight scenes.

I have to agree, just about done with the series - it's very cool - not your standard comic book hero stuff.
The fight scene in episode 2 is fee-nom-a-null

And now there's rumors of The Punisher making his way into the next season. Seen some stuff floating around about Jon Hamm from Mad Men set to portray him. Would be awesome. All of the Punisher movies so far have sucked. I think the problem with Punisher movies is that to be a halfway decent movie it would have to be too dark and too violent to ever make it past the MPAA with an R rating. To attract movie going audiences in a way that makes a superhero movie profitable means introducing a human story which is why the movies always spend so much time talking about his family and adding drama. Think American Sniper and the attention given to his relationship with his family. A decent Punisher movie would be like American Sniper if his family was killed in the beginning by the sniper Kyle chased in the movie but told in the darker mood of Sin City, but less artsy, with the sheer violence of Kill Bill, but less comedic. That's a fine line to walk. I could see The Punisher working really well as a floating character in another hero's universe. You don't need to worry about overselling the drama about his family, you can just focus on his approach to justice and how it contradicts the other hero's approach.

I agree No way you can really do The Punisher justice without giving him a hard-R rating. I think that's why it would be a great idea to re-introduce him into the Marvel universe through Netflix rather than another mainstream Hollywood movie. And with a street level (anti)hero like Punisher, you don't need some massive budget with a bunch of CGI effects. He's basically a cross between John Rambo and Charles Bronson in Death Wish. Just give him a fuckload of guns and let him blow dudes away...graphically.

I only saw the first episode, but I really liked it. I'll be watching the rest of the season soon. It's definitely better than any of the other super hero shows. I've tried Arrow and Flash, but didn't stick with them.

I'm almost finished with it and I have to say I am beyond impressed with it as a Daredevil fan. I was really excited about the direction they were going in with regards to the original Frank Miller storylines of "The Man Without Fear" and "Original Sin" (best thing I ever read outside of "The Dark Knight Returns"). Looks like there is some incorporation of newer stuff I am not familiar with, but I am hopeful for what the future holds. D'Onofrio's interpretation of the Kingpin is excellent and very nuanced.
I'm probably one of the biggest Punisher fans on the planet, and I agree that this is the perfect vehicle to re-launch him. Trouble is, they will have to lighten up Daredevil just a tad or make the Punisher beyond dark, because as it is the two really wouldn't co-exist the way they were intended; the vigilante who has a strong moral compass that wishes to see criminals brought to justice vs the vengeful vigilante who just wants to see them dead. Daredevil in the series is certainly true to the former, but his methodology is too Punisher-esque, taking a bit too much enjoyment in brutalizing and whatnot.
As for Jon Hamm, the face I get; but Frank Castle was a beast of a man, at least the way he was conceived by Zeck et al. Would be a shame to not see that continue.

Exactly how I would picture Frank in the real world. But you're right, Hamm would really have to hit the gym to really pull it off. I know a lot of people want Tom Jane to come back, and while I thought he did a solid job in the '04 movie...he just looks nothing like Frank from the comics. I really dug the Punisher "Dirty Laundry" short film he put together, though. In fact, he actually looks a helluva lot more like Frank now that he's gotten a bit older. Like the touch of bringing back the Battle Van, too.

www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/daredevil/s01/Daredevil has a 98% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes You usually only see that shit with shows like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, etc. Again, don't dismiss it just because it's centered around a Superhero.
