You aren't getting a 3rd/4th round pick for Ivory. And if all you're going to get back is a 6th or conditional 7th...then what's the point? He's still the best RB we have on the roster. + 1 People thought we overpaid when we got him for a 4th, two years ago.

QB and RB could be the two weakest spots on the team, with OG not far behind. We need to trade from a position of strength, not from a position where we still, in my opinion, could use a little help. We have a whole lot of average at the RB spot. With Ivory, Ridley, Powell and Stacy we have capable guys who are mostly average to borderline good. What I had hoped for in the Draft was some new blood, one of the 2nd tier of RBs like Ameer Abdullah or Duke Johnson to add to the mix. I think Williams falling into our lap at #6 removed a chance to do that since we seemed pretty set on getting a WR and OLB early in this draft. If Williams wasn't there at 6 I think we take either Vic Beasley or Kevin White....and then we have either the 2nd or 3rd round to get a RB. In any case, we have depth at RB but we're lacking a little bit in the capability/quality area I think. We need to keep Ivory.

This thread sucks outside of that Torrey Smith tweet. And frankly it started to piss me off when I read the title because I thought we may have foolishly traded him for some dumb reason. Why, was the word theory not obvious enough that it was just that? BTW, I did not say I wanted it to happen, I said I could see it happening. I don't think the Vikings are going to trade AP. In retrospect, a 3rd would be too high for Ivory, but I definitely think he could be had for a 4th.

Now he's 2 yrs older, not sure you get that in return.

The combination of his performance plus reduced injury threat should make him at least as valuable on the trade market as he was two years ago.

He was dinged up a bit and did have the foot injury with the Saints, and was on the PUP list, but rumor had it they put him there to save a roster space because they had drafted Mark Ingram and had a crowded backfield. Add in two more years of wear and tear on the body, almost 400 carries, and 1650 tough full contact yards... I think that weighs into the equation too. Two years ago he was a low mileage back averaging 5 YPC... now hes got a bit more tread on the tires.
I'm an Ivory fan... but I dont think Dallas gives up the same pick we spent two years ago, and anything lower, he's more valuable to us on the field.

has running back by commitee ever worked very well? maybe on a team with a superior passing attack. if the jets want to have a reliable ground game with only an average passing game then they will have one go to guy and then guys to fill in. of the guys they have now it seems powell will be the odd man out. ridley has trouble holding onto the football (when it's properly inflated). we know ivory can run hard and get yards out of nothing.

I fancy Powell as our Kevin Faulk, or young Roger Craig. He makes the most of what he gets...
