The Jets and 13 other NFL teams took $5.4 million in taxpayer money between 2011 and 2014 to give shoutouts to America’s war heroes, while making it appear they were doing it out of true appreciation. NFL greed at it's best. Take more money from taxpayers (since we the NFL don't pay tax) and "donate" that money (which wasn't ours in the first place) to charities while kind of "honoring" soldiers at the same time.

It's the way the team presents it. If you have been to a game it's very nice, soldiers are introduced from the field and their military accomplishments are recognized, invariably a standing ovation is delivered. As a fan you think the Jets are doing something nice for these people as a sense of civic pride, the fact that they are being paid to recognize these people and perhaps would not do so if not (a logical conclusion to draw) just makes it seem as if it deserves an asterisk, much like everything accomplished by the Pats and Brady. For some reason the National Guard sponsored my daughters college club rugby team. I guess its advertising, but kind of weird tax dollars are spent on it. ok, but that doesn't seem wrong to me, you know they are a sponser. As someone said earlier they do need to advertise, and that is an innovative way aside from TV and other media. As fans we have no idea they are a paid sponser of the NY Jets, and 12 other teams.

It's an all volunteer military folks (though if up to me we would bring back the draft teach all these little tit sucking momma's boys and girls it's not OK to have mom making your bed at age 30 plus: end of rant) Taking money from the government and giving it to charities that directly support vets doesn't sound so bad to me. *sigh Really? These "tit sucking momma's boys and girls" are some of the people who willingly volunteer to serve. As for the rest of the "tit sucking momma's boys and girls"...would you really want them to protect you? Do you think the ones that willingly volunteer want pansy asses next to them on the field? All volunteer army > forced conscription army

Cowboys, Ravens, Bengals, Browns, and numerous other teams participated in this as well. Who cares, anyway? Military worship is silly, and doesn't change the fact these sports teams are businesses. If you think anyone in business does anything nice just to be nice, you're a fool.

Whether or not it is silly (and I tend to agree) it's always seemed inappropriate to me for pro sports teams to involve the military, this just makes it worse

This argument is predicated on the belief that the NFL gives all the money back to the teams which is never supported in the above type stories.

Military worship is silly I don't think a little recognition counts as "worship".

Not suggesting everyone has to go to boot camp, there are many ways to serve your country that don't involve guns.

Si the Jets took $400K and donated a million. Not horrible I guess but I still think they shouldn't have taken money for it.
So I guess we can all assume that the big annual military salute at the draft is paid for too?
My wife was so impressed by the team honoring the military during the game. (So was I)
Takes all the luster out of it. Woody needs to do the right thing snd donate any money given to injured vets.

I don't see the Patriots involved, so I'm not sure why anyone cares.

I think this country would benefit from some sort of obligation to serve. Not suggesting everyone has to go to boot camp, there are many ways to serve your country that don't involve guns. What other non-boot camp, non-gun ways are there? I’ll give my 2 cents since we have this debate every other year on this side (insert war jokes). Historically we had obligatory military training for every 18 year old male. This goes back to the WW’s when fodder was needed on the front lines. Anyone who was fit and able was sent. Then war changed, and the military became professional (more jokes) …but we kept the military service just in case. Then it just became ludicrous to imagine we’d send Joe the accountant to war so the military service was dropped. I ended up doing my military service right before it was terminated : - 2 month boot camp was by far the best part of the whole thing. Exhausting and as idiotic as it was, we had tons of laughs. I still have friends from that period - Being lumped and having to deal with EVERY % of the population is an eye opener (at least for me when I was 18). When the first day they ask “who can’t read and write” and 10 hands go up, you know you’re not in Kansas anymore (or maybe you are, but whatever). - After boot camp I was assigned to transport squadron and got to do stuff I’d never do: I flew on planes, I got to try out the simulator..etc. Some guys get training during their service, got trucking licence (for free)..etc I did spend a lot of time doing nothing so 10 months was way too long. I think military service is out dated, but I wouldn’t be against some sort of civil service (4-6 months), especially in France with all the privileges you get afterwards. JMO
