My kid is crazy athletic for a 12 yo.so ive been coaching him up at home on the wr/cb positions. I got a bad shoulder and throwing was hurting me. I stumbled across a Chad Pennington instruction video on internet, and in about a minute he corrected everything I was doing wrong. Nite and day difference..like when you "know" you hit a golf ball the right way!
So now im checkin vids out of Geno at training camp...and it looks all wrong. Im no QB guru but hes throwing of his front foot and leaning forward... Do they even coach up throwing motion anymore? Or is it just is what it is? Also curious how you guys rate his arm strength?

I rate Genos arm as strong. Do you have a link to the Penny throwing vid? No lol I think it was on youtube... it was pretty cool. showed how to stand and use your body... similar to boxing which I did...you throw from your legs ,ass and hips. Elbow out at ear level and you end with follow through with your hand coming over to left front pocket...cool stuff and worked well. I also think geno has a strong arm...

I had to stop at Chad Pennington. Umm why? The guys only problem was he got hurt. Every year he played when he was healthy we were in the playoffs except one I think? he was a good leader and ran the west coast system perfectly...so whats your beef with Penny?

Have you ever seen Philip Rivers throw? Enough said. Not every throwing motion is the same. It's the same way in baseball. There's not one right way to do it.

By the time a guy gets to the NFL, their throwing motion is their throwing motion. You can make a tweak here and there, but you're not going to teach them a completely different way to throw the ball. I mean, you can try, but when the heat is on in the middle of a game, they're going to revert back to what they've done for their entire football career.
Tebow had at least 3 different QB gurus try to fix his throwing motion. Everyone who went to see the offseason workouts would talk about how much better he looked. Then he would get out on the field in a game (or even in training camp) and the mechanics would immediately break down.

I wouldn't focus on strength not at this age, accuracy and timing won't hurt the arm and are more important.

I dont think you can teach accuracy.
He could clean up his timing and mechanics but that is only going to help so much.
I also think people make too much of mechanics. QBs are not like pitchers. There are a lot of throws a QB has to make in a game where he doesnt have the time to properly set his feet and step into a throw. Sometimes they have to make a throw off their back foot or sidearm.
