The NFL fires off these fireworks just before everyone is off for the holiday weekend, hoping it slides under the radar and talk radio isn't full of people talking about the drugs and thugs of the NFL. Way to go Goodell....drop it like it's hot on Day 2 of NBA Free Agency.

What happened to the Brady ruling? :Crickets: Not crickets, they said at the time that the ruling would come down mid to late,July, just before camps open. Why would you want it now? In my perfect scenario I want him to sweat it out down to the wire and then have the penalty upheld.

How can smoking pot and cheating in a playoff game carry the same suspension?

Injunction keeps him playing while they rule. He gets to play the opener and at some point (maybe this season) he'll serve some kind of penalty if anyone remembers what the hoopla was about.

Other than Jets fans wanting Brady to get the chair this is how it is.

Other than Jets fans wanting Brady to get the chair this is how it is. I just feel that the integrity of the game is harmed much more by constant cheating than it is by players smoking pot. Smoking pot gives them no edge in the game. I understand the CBA is what it is which is why I didn't say that pot smokers shouldn't be punished (though I feel the league should revisit that rule).

I think cheating during games, playoff games, is much worse than smoking pot during the offseason. But unfortunately those are the rules.

Actually there is no set suspension for cheating like there is for drugs but the league should have looked at past rulings drugs, spygate, bountygate, etc to determine an equitable punishment. 4 games for cheating in a playoff game is a gift. Punishments are intended to deter future similar crimes. What player wouldn't endure a 4 game suspension to win the Super Bowl in the previous year? The league basically said go ahead and cheat and we will give you a month without pay but it won't impact your Super Bowl* win.

They just apply the punishment to fit the drug and the number of failed tests. It's gets trickier with something like deflated balls because there isn't a cut and dried punishment. The problem is that if they suspended him too many games Brady and his lawyers would walk into court and it would be thrown out as excessive. He'd wind up getting off free and clear. With so many suspensions being 4 games the league probably felt safe that it wouldn't be turned over by an outside court. I wanted more games, thought he deserved more but would rather he gets something over nothing.
