The ATT/DirecTV merger just went through so perhaps there's a chance that Sunday Ticket will make its way to U-verse. Interesting news here with the new iPhone about to be released. It looks like AT&T is offering a big credit if you buy a new phone through them and are a DirecTV customer. I'm about to upgrade my iPhone (I'm on the 5) to the new 6S so I'll look to grab this if I can when I order on AT&T's website this weekend. It says it's for new and existing DirecTV customers.

Again, I probably could have negotiated harder and got some other discounts this year but saving $410 over the next year just by committing to DirecTV for 12 months, that works for me.

DTV automatically renewed my ST, so I called and was like WTF, I don't want it, and they were like OK, no prob.
That was that. No Sunday Ticket now.

How much will the phone cost you? I will re-up with AT&T for another 24 months, that will get the iPhone 6S to $199 (32GB), $299 (64GB) or $399 (128GB). My iPhone 5 has 64GB of storage and I'm 90% full so I'm thinking at least 64GB again but possibly just bite the bullet and go with 128GB. They key with AT&T though is that you have to buy direct from them to get the subsidized upfront cost otherwise that 128GB iPhone 6S will cost a ridiculous $849. If you buy through the Apple website which is what I did with my iPhone 5 and the 4 before that, they only offer AT&T's NEXT payment plan which is a monthly deal of about $20-40 to essentially lease the phone. I don't really like to do that because I'm not a person who needs a new phone every 12-24 months. I'd rather pay the $399 now (averaging $16.62 per month over 24 months) than get on a payment deal. I'd also own my phone at the end of 2 years. I understand why the carriers like AT&T and Verizon do this regarding contracts and, quite honestly, it's pretty fair. There are lots of options for people now. You can just buy your device outright (expensive) but have no ties or commitment to a carrier, you can pay a low/moderate monthly amount to essentially lease your device, allowing you to avoid a big upfront cost and get a new phone every 1-2 years, or you can commit to a carrier for 2 years and get a lower/subsidized upfront cost and own your device (which you can later sell or give to someone - my wife is getting my iPhone 5 and dumping her 4S). These are extremely complex and sophisticated devices nowadays, essentially high-end computers in the palm of your hand with 12MP cameras, the fastest WiFi (802.11 ac), powerful computer chips and sophisticated interfaces (the new 3D Touch on the 6S).....so if AT&T needs to pay Apple closer to $849 for my device and they'll sell it to me for $399 then a service commitment is understandable for 2 years. If you didn't see the release presentation yesterday here's info on the new iPhone models... www.apple.com/iphone-6s/
