Via ESPN - if no deal before the season
Between him and Sheldon this Williams pick is looking more and more like the right move. Only frustrating thing is I doubt the lack of deal is due to him as a player or anything, just a numbers game, which I don't think he's fully getting. Understand his frustrations but still

Pure posturing. If the Jets hand him the right deal he will sign. Also isn't he just a RFA next year?

No, he'll be UFA after this year. But we still have control as we can franchise him. Worst case we franchise him next year and trade him. We are sitting pretty and won't lose him for nothing. He needs to take a team friendly deal or he's risking injury which could cost him tons of money.

We'll franchise him for at least a year if we can't come to terms on a deal

It would be nice if one day the Jets draft an elite player and actually keep the fucking player.
Keyshawn, Abraham, Vilma, Revis, and now potentially Wilkerson. All in the last 20 years. Buy high, sell high, never win. Great strategy.
Those cool with treating Mo like little more than a pawn will feel differently when Williams is the only relevant DE on the roster after Wilkerson is lost, and Richardson is serving a one-year suspension down the line. A stretch, maybe...but franchise history dictates that this is a reasonable conclusion.

Dude was damaged goods and way overrated by Jets fans.....the king of the 7 yard tackle. I really hope we lock up MO long term ASAP. Great player in his prime and so many fans want to trade his ass away just because there has been a snag in contract negotiations. SMH. Great defensive lineman just don't grow on trees unless we want to keep continuing to draft DLine first round for maybe the fifth and sixth year in a row.

There is a third choice in this if Wilk gets traded and Richardson is suspended we could move Coples back to the line. Its where he would excel and could become an impact player. Time will tell what the jets do

The Steelers know how to get pass rushers; we have heard Mac say this is his vision for filling that role. Does Mo sense that his value is capped somewhat? I think this dynamic is in play.

But now when you think about it either Sheldon or Mo will not be on this team next year. If they do decide to sign Mo during the season then they more than likely won't be able to afford Sheldon. Good dilemma to have based on the depth of this defensive line because it opens up other possibilities.

I don't think they treat their players very well for the most part (or their fans). Abraham was a really dumb move. We haven't had a pass rusher since and he went on to continue to be highly productive for YEARS. Stupid idiots!
