When the Pats were caught cheating I decided to root for an honest, wholesome team.
Then I watched a few games.
Then cheating didn't seem so bad.

I grew up in a single parent household. I remember my mom putting me in front of the TV so she could "whatever" to get peace of mind. I watched Joe Willie do a play action against the GIANTS and score a TD in the Yale bowl and I was hooked. Sorriest day of my life. (LOL). I was a GIANTS and JETS fan to that point. That day, I kissed off the Giants. I was about 13 to 15 cant remember. That was one of the last Jets or Giants trips I took with my father; I remember being stuck in endless traffic; Marty Glick did the play by play. jeesuz how ill am I?

When I was 7, my grandfather bought me and my sister a Jets hat and a Giants hat. We couldn't decide who got which one...so my grand dad held them behind his back and had my sister pick a hand first.
She picked the Giants hat.
She didn't even like football. No one in my house watched any sports. I think 86 was the first season I watched almost all the games...by myself not really understanding what was going on. Lol @ those old WPIX broadcasts.

I came to college in NY in the 70's. One night I got drunk and fell into a gutter. When I woke up I was dressed in a Namath jersey and white sneakers. I took it as a sign from above. Only years later did I realize that it was a vicious prank played on a naïve Midwesterner by cruel thugs. Now it's too late. Stockholm Syndrome.

November of '68 had just got home from Boot Camp. Mom made a nice dinner then sat down after to relax a little and watch the Jets and Raiders game. Turned out to be the Heidi Bowl. My father was one of the thousands of people that called the station. The hook had been set. Two months later got to watch them win Super Bowl III. Have bled green and had a drinking problem ever since. Why God... WHY?

My dad is a big football and baseball fan. When I was a kid, he told me all about the Yankees and I fell in love with New York teams. Oddly enough, he was a Giants fan but never really told me about their history and success. When I was about five, I was watching TV with my dad and the Jets score came on TV and they happened to win. I asked my dad, "Where are the Jets from?" He said, "New York." I responded, "Oh I like them!"
I was hooked ever since.

What was that line from The Count of Monte Cristo?... "We were all duped!" Jets fandom in a nutshell.

My old man had season tickets at Shea but gave them up when they moved to NJ. Saw my first game their last season there. I blame Freeman McNeil for roping me in.
