Town is throwing an early Christmas for a terminally ill 7 year-old
Ontario resident Evan Leversage has been battling cancer since he was two years old. Over the summer, doctors gave him a grim timeline: It’s unlikely he’ll make it until Christmas.
But, thanks to a lot heart from his community and a crowd-funding campaign started by his mom, Nicole, the seven-year-old won’t go without one last special holiday. The entire town of St. George, Ontario, will be celebrating Christmas — with decorations already in place and even a parade to honor the brave Evan this weekend.
“You look out our front window, the entire street is lit up,” Wellwood told CBC News. “Everywhere you look it’s Christmas.”
On the “Early Christmas in St. George” Facebook event, more than 3,700 people have said they’re planning on attending the main event this Saturday and more than $18,000 raised on Gofundme.com.
Recently, Nicole said, the family went on a ride through town to see all the lights.
“”His question is ‘Why?’,” she said. “My answer is: ‘Because you have a whole town that loves you.'”

Must be a pretty tight-knit community, good on them. I have four kids and this is my biggest fear.

I've lost two of my best friends to cancer recently, including one earlier this year. I just can't imagine losing a child. This story brought tears to my eyes. Good people dealing with a nightmare the best way they can.

Good people dealing with a nightmare the best way they can. Ditto man. Children going before their parents happens too often. It happened in my wife's family. A beautiful vibrant 15 year old, great student, cheerleader. Got dizzy spells and headaches. She had a very aggressive brain tumor. Try as they may, she was gone at the age of 17. I don't know how the family held it together, but they have. It's all a part of life I guess.
