...the pass to Smith on the three and out between the Pats two TD's in the 4th, and the bullshit shift on FG that caused Carpenter to jump.
Two huge plays, that is all.

Was that call on Carpenter costly at all? I thought it moved 5 yards and Folk drilled the 55 yarder anyway? I agree on the Smith no-call. The other big one was Chung pulling down Cumberland's arm in the end zone. That was PI for sure. It was a very quick play that's hard for the officials to see but on the replay it was 100% clear that his arm was pulled while the ball was in the air. We know Cumberland can barely catch with 2 hands....the officials need to make sure the Pats aren't trying to tie one arm behind his back. Bottom line - The was pig was ripe and is still ripe. Jets had a lead in the 3rd quarter. Marshall dropped a sure TD....that pig was ready to be slaughtered, but Jets can't make mistakes and expect to beat a good team.

The shift thing really rubbed me the wrong way, it was so Pats pushing the legal limits of things to do, watching on the replay you could see they all lurched forward as the shifted, I wouldn't be surprised if they lined up further off the line than usual to allow for that and not hit the neutral zone.
the Chung was pretty close but I can see that not getting called, the no pass interfence on Smith was ridiculous imho and a potential game changer. In a game that tight all it takes is one break this way or that, and the Jets really don't get that break, ever (aside from Vinnie's TD vs Seattle years ago).

I'm over the loss already. Competitive game, down to the wire against the defending Super Bowl champions and the best team in the league right now, like it or not. We beat ourselves - a few things go different and we win. Despite the loss this game showed that we are for real - teams will be scared to play the Jets. Can complain about the refs all day in every single game, not going to change anything. On to Oakland.

I was sitting at about the 5 yard line looking directly down the goal line when Vinny came up short that day vs. Seattle. We all knew it wasn't a TD. I think that game was one of the key pieces of evidence in getting replay instituted in the 12 months following the game. The roar of the crowd was so loud on that play that I think it pushed the officials to call TD. That game also likely cost Dennis Erickson his HC job in Seattle.

What kills me is that I've seen them do that before. It's definitely in their normally "bag of dirty tricks" especially when teams are just inside of FG range. The Patriots are very good at towing the line on the rules. It may be dirty pool...but technically not against the rules. But hey...douche bags are gonna be douche bags so you just gotta expect it.

The FG thing isn't even towing the line, that's not allowed per the rules, but officials never call that on the defense. Pittsburgh had a similar thing happen to them earlier this year I believe in a 4th and short. Very well could have been against the Pats.

Meh. I must be the only one who thinks the refs didnt factor at all. We got some ticky-tacky illegal contacts and holds to go our way.
We arent gonna beat the Pats -1 in turnover differential and dropping TD passes and giving up third and longs. Was a very winnable game. I expect the line to be no more than 3 points the next time we meet up assuming healthy.
