yeah we all know that ivory had a hamstring pull early in the game and wasn't that effective. but it seems to me that the running game was working better when colon was out and winters was in. no knock on colon but winters is bigger and younger. a few extra blocks here and there and who knows?

In the near future, the O line must be upgraded, and get younger for the Jets to challenge in the AFC East. This upgrade must be balanced with other positional needs/upgrades, either via the draft, trade or free agency. Not an easy task, but I have faith in the new GM to get this done.

The fact that we could even realistically have this debate is a feat within itself!

I agree, but the Jets HAVE tried over and over to upgrade and get younger. They seem to draft or sign at least 1-2 O-Linemen every year (Winters isn't old, Aboushi drafted a few years ago, Dozier last year, Harrison this year). The problem seems to be that they haven't hit that home run yet. The Jets haven't found that one surprise guy who gets drafted in Round 4 and then surprises everyone in camp by immediately winning a starting OG spot. And when that doesn't happen you have to do things like sign a Breno Giacomini and a James Carpenter.

Slauson was the big F up by Tanny/Rex. The Jets were too concerned with admitting they screwed up on drafting Ducasse in Round 2 so they let Slauson walk. In hindsight, they should have cut bait earlier with Ducasse and signed Matt Slauson longterm. It's been an annual search for OG ever since that happened.

It's hard to develop OL in this new CBA, not enough pad time. We will have to use a high pick eventually to bring in a blue chip OL prospect.....

And it became obvious when you factor in people like the ghost and Wayne Hunter. I remember feeling some doubt at that time and hoping a lot of the doubters were wrong... They weren't.

I think Slauson made a Pro Bowl once or twice with Chicago after he went there.
