This Sunday, Jets travel to Oakland for a matchup with the Raiders. This will be the 41st regular season meeting between the teams with the Raiders having won 21, the Jets 17 and there have been two ties. The teams also met in the playoffs 4 times, with each team winning twice.
The very first game between the two teams took place on this date, 10/28/60 as the Titans hosted the Raiders on a rainy afternoon at the Polo Grounds. The Titans came in at 4-3, in second place in the AFL Eastern Division behind the 5-1 Oilers. The 3-4 Raiders were in 3rd place in the West.
The Titans were quarterbacked by a banged up Al Dorow, who came into the game with injuries to his ribs and ankle. Leading the Raiders was QB Tom Flores, who later went on to Coach the team to two Super Bowl Championships in the 1980s.

The Titans made several big plays in the first half to take a 21-14 lead into the break. Dorow hit Don Maynard for a 47-yard 1st quarter TD. After the Raiders tied the game on a 25 yard pass from Flores to Billy Lott, Leon Burton answered with a 101 yard kick return TD to give the Titans the lead right back.
The teams traded long scoring passes in the 2nd quarter, with the Raiders tying the game on a 61 yard scoring pass from Flores to Al Hoisington. Dorow would hit Art Powell for 76-yards later in the quarter for a 21-14 halftime lead. Powell finished with 6 catches for 123 yards and the one TD.
The TItans offense would be grounded much of the 2nd half, settling for field goals on red zone trips in the 3rd and 4th quarter, leaving the door open for a Raiders comeback. Dorow struggled through most of the game, aside from the two big scoring plays. He finished with a 15-34-201-2-3 line -- with more than half his yardage coming on the two big plays.
Trailing 24-14 in the 4th quarter, the Raiders replaced Flores with back-up QB Babe Parilli who led 4th quarter touchdown drives of 91 and 71 yards to give the Raiders a 28-27 victory. Jim “Jetstream” Smith finished both drives with TD runs of 3 yards and 9 yards. The Titans had one last chance to pull out the win, but Dorow fumbled at the start of the Titans final drive and the Titans lost a heartbreaker to the Raiders.
