All he does is dance left and right negating his speed. He never goes forward and utilizes it. Steelers third round. Jeez sounds like exactly what we have now... Ever since Oakland busted Leon's leg.

Have been sort of expecting this. There is a clear need at KR with the loss of Owusu and then Stacy.
Might not see a move this week though. Enunwa's post-suspension roster exemption ends soon, so even if Stacy goes on the IR the Jets will probably want to use that roster spot for Quincy.
I'd think the Jets will add a KR - Archer, Holliday, Jeff Demps - once the Safety injury crisis is over and they can move one of the 5 safeties back to the practice squad to free up a spot.

From what I have read of his time in Pitt, the Steelers crit of him was that he was not aggressive enough coming out of the end zone -- settling for the touchback when they felt he could have taken it out. With the way our KR has been this year, I would gladly settle for the touchback. Although I am not sure I want to sign someone just to take a knee in the end zone.

This thread just reinforces how good Westoff was. Jets went decades without a return threat, then had a Westoff string of Craig Yeast-Chad Morton-Justin Miller-Brad Smith-Leon Washington...all multiple-TD guys.
Westoff leaves, and now we're scraping the barrel for options again.
Edited to add Justin Miller

Archer was a draft forum legend. I am all for either of these guys but would prefer Archer. Draft forum legend? I'm pretty sure all the regulars here didn't like them and had him as a late round pick. Jesus you draft people are sensitive. There were tons of people projecting him in the 3rd to 4th round and projecting him to the Jets.

Even some thought 2nd just based on his speed. I would be fine signing him. Long shot but if he could be anything like a young Sproles it would really help out.

I was among those who really liked Archer coming out of college. His problem has been the same as Holliday's, putting the ball on the ground.Otherwise, just like Holliday, he's an explosive return man. Kinda like this guy? All speed and no hands?

Without putting the ball on the ground. Is that too much to ask. And for the record, I am one of the guys who liked him as a potential 3rd down back/receiver and KR. Maybe not 2nd or 3rd round. But I would not have had an issue with him in the 4th or 5th had he still been on the board. The guy returned 4 of his last 20 kicks for TDs in college -- I would be willing to give him a shot.

We had the same type of guy on the team already and we cut him this week....Shane Wynn....plus, Wynn is a much more polished receiver.
But let's go ahead and retread guys who have failed elsewhere instead of giving someone else a chance to prove himself.
Maybe Wynn would have put the ball on the ground too....but maybe he wouldn't. With Dri and Trindon, we already know at some point they will.

I remember Archer being significantly on the radar and talked about as a 3rd or 4th rounder to the Jets.

I always watch a lot of Pitt games and a normal return for him would be, tread lightly out of the EZ, wiggle left, wiggle right, get tackled at the 15. If the Steelers can't get anything out of him, what are the chances our ST coach will?

He could take a bad returner and make him average. If you had a guy with decent talent like Leon or Morton, he made them into some of the best returners in the NFL. I do wonder, with all the rule changes (no wedge, kickoffs from 35, etc.) how valuable Westhoff would be, but I do think he'd find a way to make some things happen and improve our situation.

I say just make Cromartie the fulltime kick returner.
Don't give two shits about him potentially getting hurt on kick returns. He's been garbage at corner this season anyway.
Let him earn some of that $8 million we're paying him this year. Because he sure as fuck isn't doing it playing opposite Revis.
