Just a couple of under the radar depth signings on this date, and a minor trade:
3/4/96: The Jets traded starting RT James Brown to the Dolphins for a 5th round pick (DB Ray Austin). Earlier in the offseason, the Jets had acquired free agent OTs Jumbo Elliott and David Williams, making Brown expendable. He became a 5 year starter for Miami. As for Austin, he played one season for the Jets before moving on to the Bears. He is now one of the founders of the Fanchise -- a venture that is developing an online community with the plan to purchase a minor league sports team and allow its members to vote on all team-related decisions.
3/4/05: Jets signed backup RB Derrick Blaylock from the Chiefs & DL Lance Legree from the Giants. In two seasons as a Jet, Blaylock carried the ball 42 times for 97 yards, a 2.3 yard per carry average. Legree played just one season for the Jets, playing in 16 games and starting 4 before returning to the Giants for the 2006 season.
3/4/08: Signed DB Andre Woolfolk from Tennessee. Woolfolk was a first round pick of the Titans out of Oklahoma in 2003. He did not work out for either the Titans or the Jets. He never played for the Jets, they cut him in training camp. Woolfolk never got another chance from any NFL teams.
3/4/09: Re-signed their own free agent, kicker Jay Feely. In two seasons as a Jet, Feely would make over 84% of his FGs, with a long of 55. He made all of his XP attempts.

When you are as old as I am, and a fan of the Jets, sometimes it feels like all we have is the history. These threads sometimes remind me just how bad some parts of that history was -- as bad as the Idzik/Ryan era was, it is nothing compared to the mid 90s and the entire decade of the 1970s. But I love this team and I love this site, so I enjoy doing the research and the daily write-ups.

I'm almost 50 Lith...hows many years yung are you good sir?? Approaching the double nickel, so I have got you by a few years. Just old enough to remember watching Namath in SB III and also old enough to begin to wonder if I will ever see the Jets in another one.

At least you have that Superbowl memory..the earliest game and the Fucking game that made me a Jets fan was Namath/Unitas in 1972..I think they finished 7-7 that year. Living in Rockland I was hooked. Lassoed. Game set match.

Living in Rockland I was hooked. Lassoed. Game set match. Remember it well. Pretty sure I was at the other Jets-Colt matchup that year, the game at Shea. As a kid growing up on LI, I was a Mets & Jets guy. Got to see both my teams win it all within a few months of each other and thought it would always be that way. 1 WS title is all I have got since (although last season's Series run was a blast). At least I also had the Islander run in the early 80s, but that also feels like ancient history now.

Oh and I'm a Sabres fan too...
So I've almost have 90 years combined no titles between the Jets and Sabres..
Perhaps Bing isn't the Golden horseshoe I like to think I am...or was...is..

Although Namath would play a few more years, that probably was his last great, memorable game. 15 completions for nearly 500 yards. A guy needs to complete 40+ passes today to get that kind of production.
