The sack was Powell's fault. He abandoned his inside position to pick up a guy coming from the outside. Had he stayed put, 'nope would have had more time to get rid of it. Actually, it was more than just Powell the blocking on that play was a disaster. OTOH there would have been nothing wrong with calling the 3rd down draw that Paul Hackett was famous for, esp. if you regarded the situation as being 4-down territory. if they would've called a draw there everyone on this board would of bitched and moaned about playing scared and blah blah blah

I'd rather have Amy Trask's opinion about football than Filip Bondy's. Idzik has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. Let's give him another coach and another few years to flush down the toilet as he moves at his "glacially slow, deliberate" pace. Fuck him, and every one of his defenders.

What's with this either or Bullshit?! Why can't we blame the both of them?!?! I was about to post the same thing. When you are 3-12, there is more than just one person to blame. I don't think Idzik has done a good job building the roster, nor do I think Rex has gotten the most out of the team on the field. Hopefully, by this time next week, we have moved on from both.

Just said the same thing in the thread about Geno throwing Rex under the bus. Them calling a pass play in that situation was stupid IMO and summarizes Rex's tenure. You're already in FG position with the clock winding down. Why not just run? By passing, you risk a) an interception b) an incomplete pass that stops the clock and gives Pats some time back or c) a sack (which happened) taking you out of range. Stupid call. The Cons outweighed the Pros in that situation.

The Cons outweighed the Pros in that situation. Agreed. nothing wrong with the conservative call when you can't trust the QB.

Great article by Bondy.
Idzik hasn't been the total disaster that every Joe Mouthbreather seems to think. He's the victim of having a boring personality, cargo ship captain looks, and a poor media relationship. He got great value for Revis, executed successful trades for Harvory, and picked up some useful players in his two drafts. Including a superstar. He signed the top FA WR last year for below market value. He signed the top FA QB and the top FA RB as well.
Has he been perfect or even "good"? No. Honestly it drives me crazy that he didn't draft a WR in the third round last year, McDougle would have been available in the 4th. I don't like him picking Pryor over Cooks, and obviously the lack of CB signings was terrible. But he's not the worst GM to ever Generally Manage.
The real problem is Rex and his culture of 1980s football. Clock management, smart aggressive decisions in playcalling, making challenges successfully, and more facets of 21st century football all seem to mysteriously be missing no matter who our OC or QB is.
Maybe he can learn at his next job and eek out a Sanchezian short term revival. But certain aspects of his approach are never going to change, and that approach has run its course here.

Exactly As long as Rex is around, our offense will always be stuck in the stone age. When he was retained after that fucking clown show of a season in 2012, he made it known at the press conference with Woody that he wanted an OC that was "just as aggressive on offense as I am on defense". And how long did that shit last with Marty, who has a reputation as one of the more pass happy, aggressive OC's in the league?
