Trade hinges on if Broncos, Colin Kaepernick can agree on restructured
5:43 PM ET Adam Schefter ESPN Senior Writer
San Francisco and Denver have the parameters of an agreement in principle on a trade for Colin Kaepernick, sources said, but before any deal can be completed, the quarterback and the Broncos still have to agree on a restructured contract, and the two sides have not been close.
Kaepernick and the Broncos continue talking, trying to see if they can bridge their contractual differences, sources said.
Kaepernick is due to make $11.9 million in base salary this season and has a $15.9 million salary cap number for 2016. The Broncos want a much friendlier cap number and contract, and need to see whether they can get it.
Kaepernick and Broncos executive vice president of football operations/general manager John Elway have met at least once, as the San Francisco Chronicle reported, trying to see if the two sides can work out their differences.
The agreement on trade compensation between Denver and San Francisco will not be an issue in any potential trade for Kaepernick, sources said. The compensation is expected to be some type of mid-round pick.
The real question is whether the Broncos and Kaepernick can work out a restructured deal; the Broncos and 49ers already have the parameters of theirs in place.
Denver, which lost Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in free agency, has long been linked to Kaepernick, reportedly envisioning him competing with the recently acquired Mark Sanchez.

So SF drafts a qb, only open seat left for Fitzy is the Jets We're so fucked. Why are we always the bride left at the fucking alter? Our choice is coming down to a disgruntled JAG in Fitztragic and a turnover machine in Genope.

Not saying this is going to happen but if Mac did trade with Dallas and we got the #4 pick, it would put us in front of SF for one of the top 2 QBs. That could make for some interesting draft day scenarios.
I always find the draft interesting but this one seems even more exciting to me. We don't have Fitz signed, Mo is being shopped and we don't know what the hell Mac is thinking. And I don't mean that in a bad way. I love how he keeps everything close to the vest but it should does keep us guessing every day. I am very comfortable with him as the GM so far but this draft and the next few weeks will tell us an awful lot about him.
Does he actually ship Mo out?
If so, where does that put us in the draft?
If we trade Mo to Dallas and we have the 4th pick, would Mac pull the trigger and draft a QB?
Does he take Mack?
Does somebody else fall to us?
Does Mac trade back?
Or do we stay at 20?
What happens with Fitz?
Damn... I love the draft.

Even if we don't resign Fitz Mac has played this situation perfectly. He never panicked, which is a nice change of pace.

We never even agreed to an engagement let alone the alter. Fitz gonna be back at his deserved backup/starter pay like last year or he can retire. It's his choice. Mac is the man. Played it perfect.

If we trade mo, what's the point in signing Fitz... Obviously it would be a major tilt towards a rebuilding mode...

Trading mo in no way signals rebuilding mode, in fact it helps us tremendously. For as much as I like him he is NOT a cornerstone that you build a franchise around...I hope and pray we trade him. My only problem is will someone give up the first rounder or will they offer a high second and some other picks. For us the more picks may be more beneficial if Mac isnt in love with anyone at the top of the draft. I dont really like either of these QB's at the top honestly and unless something changes my mind I'd rather move up to the 4 spot only to trade that for a few more picks to move back down into the teens and get a few players. we need lb's, lineman, WR, another QB, TE and CB. Revis and Skrine are all we have at corner. Revis is slowing down and Buster for as much as I like him is better in the slot and already gets too many flags. We need help fellas and more picks will help us over the long haul.

and I'm glad we are holding the line on Fitz....I think Mac really read the market right and if the old man still wants to play and wants to start he better start thinking of signing before we decide to find someone else to not shave and throw the ball to marshall and decker while powell and forte run threw a few new holes. Someone that can actually get the ball to that 2nd rounder smith as he blazes down the sideline....you know someone who can ACTUALLY throw the deep ball accurately perhaps. I think Amaro and Smith come back to surprise some and Fitz better get wise before the dance starts and he is the one without a partner.
