12. Mike Maccagnan, Jets Last Year’s Ranking: — — That’s how you produce a comeback album. Given the keys to a franchise in a four-year playoff drought, Mike Maccagnan convinced the old guitar player (Darrelle Revis) to return before finding a new singer (Ryan Fitzpatrick) on the cheap. He brought back the bassist (Antonio Cromartie), too, but ended up having to bury him in the mix. It was indeed a reunion feel for Gang Green in 2015, but it was the new faces who really got the party going. Catching passes from Fitzpatrick — and acquired for the No. 142 overall pick — Brandon Marshall had a career year at age 31. In the draft, Maccagnan selected one of its best overall players in Leonard Williams at No. 6 overall. It was this mix of old and new that got the Jets headed back in the right direction, and earned Maccagnan hero status in a ferociously tough market. Many challenges remain. The offensive core is aging and defensive linchpin Muhammad Wilkerson wants to get paid. Left tackle D’Brickshaw Ferguson has retired, and Revis is not the same player he was under Rex Ryan. It means Maccagnan’s honeymoon period isn’t going to last long, but the fact that he even got a honeymoon period in the Big Apple speaks to how well he performed as a rookie general manager. www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/61907/57/nfls-best-gms-2016?pg=2

The next two weeks and then the months before training camp will tell a lot about Mac.

The guy won Executive of the Year in 2015 and they have him at 12?? Fair, now that I think about it. Fixes the LT problem and RB situation. With Ozzy, Thompson, Colbert, Elway, Jon Robinson (Tenn) after that robbery of LA, McKenzie, Spielman, Gettleman, Dimitgroff, Keim, Schneider Those are in no particular order. Give Mac a few years and he'll be top 5.....

This draft will define Mac because he's got the Mo ace card to play. Absolute gargantuan monster of a draft for him.

I like what I've seen so far, but ultimately Mac's tenure here will be shaped by his success in the draft....here's to an amazing draft in 10 days!

Plz his career wll not be judged by this draft.. Come on No not this draft but his drafts period.... If he can't prove that he can stack the cupboard over time unlike his predecessors he'll suffer the same fate they did....

Plz his career wll not be judged by this draft.. Come on Not his career but it will tell us everything we need to know about him. He's had no money in FA, has no long term QB, and has a bargaining chip in Mo to deal, for all those reasons this draft is a huge catalyst for his career. He needs to make sure he doesn't fuck this up.

Plz his career wll not be judged by this draft.. Come on I don't think anyone is saying his career will be judged by this draft. But I do think he will definitely begin to define himself this year. He has had two completely different off seasons. One where he was flush with money and another where he has had to be tight with it. We will now see Mac at both ends of the spectrum. I want to see Mac more worried about the future of this team than the the 2016 team. Sure, I hope we do great this year but I would have no problem taking a step back if I thought he was laying the foundation for future success. And the fact that he hasn't given in and paid a journeyman QB a lot of money makes me quite pleased. Don't get me wrong, I would not be upset to see Fitz as the QB this year but I certainly hope the goal is for him not to be the QB in 2017.

He hasn't put the team in any huge hole, yet. Like Idzik just completely ignoring the secondary. Yeah, there's weak spots but at least he has strong veterans in place.
I think if Mauldin can turn into a pretty good player, that's huge for him. Then you have a strong core on defense at each level with Williams, Mauldin and Pryor.
Need to get younger on offense in a hurry though.
