I don't ty to convince myself of such things. I should, but I don't. I don't try to convince myself. Usually it just happens. But not this time. I do however - genuinely hope the guys we have on our roster become NFL soldiers. Agree, I am hoping for nothing but success for Darron Lee now that he is a Jet. I hope he wins me over. Just not feeling it this AM.

Either that, or maybe Petty can be the guy. If Lynch is a hit for Denver, then Petty had better be the guy for us. Fucking QB drops right into out laps and we pass. We have all seen the Marino video. They guy in the striped shirt, being interviewed after we selected Ken O'Brien. "Obviously the Jets know something that the people up here don't." I have always been that guy. I usually wake up the day after the draft and have convinced myself the pick will be great. Vernon Gholston was going to be a disruptive force like Lawrence Taylor. Sanchez, he was going to be our Joe Montana. Coples was going to be Terrell Suggs. Calvin Pryor even had the hair to fly around the field and make plays like Troy Polamalu. The Idzik 12 was going to transform the roster, bringing youth, leadership & depth that was lost during the Tanny era. Idzik was our savior, it was brilliant the way he picked guys like Jeremiah George, Brandon Dixon and Dakota Dozier. Or so I thought. With 12 picks, I told myself, he intentionally picked guys to redshirt for a season because you could not fit 12 rookies on the roster. I have always been more RayRay than JetRepulsion. I remember sitting on my couch watching the 2nd round of the draft in 2013. The day after we selected Milliner, the guy who was going to make us all forget Revis. The Eagles were on the clock just a pick or two ahead of us. I was praying that they would take Geno to get him off the board. Once they passed and we were on the clock, I kept thinking anyone but Smith here. And as soon as we took him, I convinced myself he would be the guy. How could he miss, he led his team to 70+ points in the Orange Bowl against Clemson. I was sitting in the stands that night. Geno was going to be great, I just knew it. I watched Jet Nation on SNY last night. I saw guys like Tony Pauline, Erik Coleman and Mike Westhoff, who know so much more about football than I do. They love the pick. I should too. Macc and Bowles obviously like the guy. They know way more about football than I do. I should buy into the pick. I haven't been able to. Maybe I just ran out of green kool aid. I don't ty to convince myself of such things. I should, but I don't. I do however - genuinely hope the guys we have on our roster become NFL soldiers. I want them to be great... This regime howver.. Fuck. They're quickly on their way to be known as the "we passed" crew. Passed on Gurley. Passed on DGB. Passed on Lynch... It's not they're making roger Vick selections, but seem to be missing the apple staring right back at them. Mac seems to be very risk averse. I would never in a million years would have expected him to take DGB. Especially in his first year (would that have been his very first pick ever?) The others are risky or reaches. I'm skeptical that they tried to move up for Tunsil with Sheldon's suspension staring them in the face.

How many people in the Lynch crowd would be ok with Hackenberg? I wasn't really anti or pro Lynch. If they took him at 20, fine. I think Hackenberg has a lot of the same risk/reward that Lynch does, with a lot of the same passing tools. I feel the same way about taking Hackenberg as Lynch. If they take him, fine. If they don't, fine. Just don't move up to do it. As a fellow Big Ten guy, I'm sure you've seen your fair share of Hackenberg. I'm just not impressed at all. I watched him in person shit the bed against an IU defense that everyone throws for 350+ on. I think he finished that day sub 50% with no tds and a pick six. Certainly one game doesn't make or break a guy but he's wildly inconsistent which leaves me very very concerned. Correct, I am far from blown away by Hackenberg, especially under Franklin. Personally though, I don't think him and Lynch are much different players. I think if you swapped them on each other's team, you'd see the opinions level out a bit. I think they are very similar tool wise. I have doubts that either of them are long term QB solutions for a franchise. I was just more or less wonder if you(not you specifically)are willing to dive into one project with a certain set of skills, would you be willing to dive into another one with similar skills. They are different types of projects though. I will say this about Hackenberg. At certain points, he has showed the ability. As you say though, unbelievably inconsistent. The question is can he eventually stabilize in the right situation. If he does, I think he's got every bit the ceiling Lynch does. I would lean towards he doesn't though. I also question Franklin as a coach. I am extremely underwhelmed by him and his ability to help Hackenberg develop.

One thing that is thrown around a lot that I find totally irrelevant is that we've taken so many defensive players in the 1st round. While, yes, that is frustrating as fans... it wasn't this regime that did it. You can't expect them to not go BPA to break a streak they didn't start. So far I trust in Mac. I haven't felt that way in a long time. true enough. what is relevant is when guys like coples, gholston and wilson don't pan out. different regime dude.

The bong videos, apparently there was also some stuff on Instagram last night (not sure what it was), taking $$ while at Ole Miss, possible involvement with Nkemdiche in the hotel incident. I wonder if Miami may have buyers remorse some day soon. If he fell to us at 20 and we rolled the dice, I could live with it, but would not have wanted to give up picks to go get him.

(tho a Hack selection would be the riskiest thing since Pee Wee at birthday party) but he did trade for Marshall who isn't an altar boy and Clady coming off an injury. So not sure if it's a risk thing, or what... Darron fcking Lee better ball out.

Also consider that he lost Allen Robinson and Donavan Smith, and combined with the scholarship limits that were imposed on PSU it left zero depth and hurt in recruiting elite prospects. Give Hackenberg credit for staying at PSU after all that shit went down, but he would have been better served had he transferred to a more stable program.

He withdrew from school to focus on rehabilitation and announced his intention to enter the draft as an underclassman. Six months later, however, he had missed the NFL Scouting Combine, had only limited participation in UCLA's pro day, and scrapped a plan to hold a personal pro day at which he was expected to run his first 40-yard dash for NFL scouts.
Following his medical recheck in Indianapolis on April 15, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported NFL clubs had mixed opinions about Jack's knee. Subsequently, concerns about the possibility of a second surgery, later in his pro career, arose."Uh, no thankee...

How is that any different for Mac and the Jets if Lynch turns into something in Denver? Where are Macs and the Jets Super Bowl rings? For one thing taking Lynch at 20 wouldn't have been a "reach", second, has there been a bigger need for this franchise over the last decade and a half than QB? If I am not mistaken, the Jets have taken more QBs in the draft over the past 20 years or so than any other team - obviously not the best ones. So I don't think its a matter of avoiding the wide net. All I see getting everyone into Lynch is that a) the next-ben-roth articles on the web that took as long to write as they take to read and b) Denver picked him. I'd bet very strongly that if Den had passed on Lynch, there'd be litle hubbub in this forum over us passing on Lynch as well. And my point about Elway is that he can afford to have a project; that team is stacked and he has a hell of a lot of runway. Play keep-away from KC and hope you can develop PL to start in 3 years - sure, why not - what other hole were they plugging at the back of the first round anyhow? Taking PL in the 1st also gives you that extra 5th year - which would be important in PL case.

Lol...just watching NFL Network and hearing how all these teams were excited about Lynch. Dallas was ready to trade up to take him, Arizona was prepared to draft him had he been there and we all know Denver traded up for him. Ughhhhhhhhhhh

Ughhhhhhhhhhh Not that it matters really, but all those teams are trading up for him to sit, expect probably the Broncos. Would the Jets have taken him to sit?
