B+ for me. If Hack turns out to be a decent Qb could turn into a A.

Biggest issue for me is not getting a legitimate young offensive lineman. You dont draft for need blah, blah, blah but our OL needed to be addressed years ago. I know they were trying to get an OL and Tony Pauline thinks they moved up for Shell bc they were afraid of getting shut out completely.
Im OK with the Lee pick bc I think he is gonna be an immediate player for us. Same for Jenkins.
Hackenberg pick is OK. We gotta keep throwing shit at the wall until one sticks. One QB per year if need be. Over a half century since we drafted our last franchise QB.
I dont mind using picks on kickers and punters so long as they win the job and are good. Time will tell on that one.
I am intrigued by the Peake pick. He has decent size and speed. No immediate need for him to play bc we actually have NFL receivers on our roster already.
So why my grade so low? For me its more about what we didnt get. OL. RB. TE. In my opinion the issue needed to be forced but we shall see.

I've been wantin us to overhaul that shitty old slow ass LB corp for ever, we got two day 1 starters in Lee and Jenkins so I'm pleased we might actually be able to cover over the middle for a change this year.
I love the Hack pick, smart student of the game who has a legitimate shot at bein the long term answer, all in on this pick.
Shell and Burris are unknowns for me, like the fact we addressed the O-line and felt Shell was worth trading for, I personally thought better players where available at the time but I guess time will tell.
Thank fuck we took a punter, gotta be pleased with that pick. Peake in the 7th was an absolute steal, he could contribute day 1 and adds some much needed speed on offense.

I'll give it a B for a "way to early" draft grade. I'm fine with most of our picks and I'm usually bitching about who we took at this point.
Lee is a good pick that fills a need. He was actually on my short list of players to pick when we were on the clock. Seems like we will move him all over the field instead of using him primarily as a inside backer. Bowles loves his chess pieces and we have a badly needed injection of speed into the front 7.
I wanted no parts of Hackenburg before the draft but once we took Lee and passed on Lynch, it became clear that we would take a shot at him. I did a lil research and I'm fine with the pick. Usually when we have a QB with red flags(Geno, Sanchez, Petty) they have limited experience, or they're coming from some gimmicky college O where they didn't have to make pre-snap reads, more then one progression in a play, or they've never taken a snap under center. It's odd this time with Hack that he actually EXCELS at these aspects of the game. His problem is his mechanics which affects his accuracy and he looks skittish and uncomfortable in the pocket from the beating he's taken over the last 2 years. Maybe Gailey and Patullo can fix it, maybe he's unsalvageable, but I'll support Mac and Hack because he went after the QB he liked..
Jenkins looks like he can step in at SOLB from day 1 and set that edge in the run and just play physical. It's been real Calvin Pace. I really like this pick. Liked what I've seen of Jenkins...similar to Mauldin in the fact that he's not a freak athlete but a damn good football player with a good motor who plays physical.
Not too familiar with the CB we took, and there probably was better value there in the 4th, but I don't mind the trade for a OL we liked in the 5th. If he can start competently at RT someday it's a home run. If he can be a solid backup there it's a good pick. Would have liked to address OL earlier, but there was a run on Tackles due to that gas mask bong rip, and i didn't necessarily want to give up a 2 or 3 to trade up for him. Happy we drafted a punter AND we were able to pick up the other Aussie everyone here liked as a UDFA so we'll have a real competition in camp.

I think when you look at the big picture of the draft, the following probably went under the radar.
- Mac traded our 2016 5th rounder for Ryan Clady & Denver's 7th rounder.
- Mac then traded a 2017 4th rounder to Washington to aquire a 5th round pick in 2016 and take Brandon Shell.
As for why the Jets traded the 2017 fourth-round pick for Shell, general manager Mike Maccagnan said this: "Some of that also had to do with the fact that we had compensatory picks that we're projected to have next year, after what happened in free agency [this offseason, with players leaving the Jets]. We'll still potentially have a fourth-round pick next year that's a compensatory pick." (Got this paragraph from an article on NJ.com)
- The Jets then used the 7th round pick they aquired from Denver to take Charone Peake.
So basically, Mac traded a 2017 4th rounder and got Clady, Shell & Peake.
Pretty fucking good in my opinion.

Start Geno, let him try to put on a show to salvage his career somewhere else. Start Hack in 17. Havin said that I've got a sneaky feelin Macc and Bowles feel Hack may be ready to win the job this year.

After all the years of the no stone unturned bullshit, this was actual scouting. Every player sans the punter will start. Big Mac had little to work with and did very well. It was all about his scouting background and the staff he has put in place.
As I posted prior to the draft, I was high on Lynch's tape. After Grudens Qb camp I liked Hackenbergs attitude...also saw potential in Prescott. Great balls to make that pick...its gonna workout at qb ..Hack is a good one.
The future Defensive 7 is Richarson, Wilkerson, Williams, Pryor, Lee, Taiwan Jones, Maulden, Jenkins !? WTF!! That's fuckin nasty!!!! Cant wait!
Loved that Chad Penny introduced the new Qb. I watched hours of tape on him last night. Kid reminds me of Peyton at the line..Brady when he throws, And I saw an old grizzled vet who knows the game of football as he was talking to Gruden. Hes tough...theyre cut from the same cloth. Gaily is gonna make this kid a top 5 QB. Bet! What an arm. Smartest Qb in the draft...great resolve. You'll see!
Peake at 7 was a Steal! If you mashed Marshell and Decker together...You get Peake? Can you plan this shit? lol
Lastly.. check the Age of the picks we drafted... Macs scouting is on point...all very young players drafted for what they will become.... Go fuckin JETS! Cheers!

Stop being a negative Nancy because we did not pick players at spots YOU think we should have. Overall it is a pretty good draft and it Hack turns into a 10 year starter it will go down as one of our top 5. Good young ballers with a CS that seems to be able to develop players.
