Even the most diehard rock music fans don’t know that jazz musician Stéphane Grappelli, the French jazz violinist who founded the Quintette du Hot Club de France with guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1934 , recorded a solo for the title track of Pink Floyd’s 1975 album Wish You Were Here. This was made almost inaudible in the mix, and so the violinist was not credited, according to Roger Waters, as it would be “a bit of an insult”. A remastered version, with Grappelli’s contribution fully audible, can be found on the 2011 Experience and Immersion editions of Wish You Were Here.

Interesting to hear the intro without the studio effects included. Not to mention it sounds WAY better sans violin.

Pitch issues on that violin. Kinda sounds like he didn't know the song dynamic well. Probably didn't wanna practice or learn it either. But Waters may have been a giant douchebag too so he may have just been like fuck it.

Bing banged his girlfriend over the kitchen table. common Stéphane Grappelli was the barber on teh Andy Griffith show? No wonder he never made it in the music business.... he was a much better actor.
