I think he will though. Forgetting Geno's attitude for a second, I'm just not sold on Petty enough to think he can weather a real storm. If our #1 was legit, with a history of playing 16 healthy games, then that's a different story. Let's break it own; Is Petty the best back up on the roster? Y/NAnswer; no. I don't think he's as far behind as we initially thought, but if Fitz got cold cocked against CIN, Petty would be eaten alive by an starting NFL defense in 2 weeks. That's what I believe. Not saying Geno's rock solid, but Petty is just that green in my opinion. Is Petty a likely candidate to open 2017 as a #1 while Hack is groomed (further)? Y/NAnswer? No. Not on this team, in this city. If Hack isn't ready to fight for #1, there needs to another Fitz type guy around. Macc's regime would face considerable scrutiny with only those 2 on the roster. So if he's not ready to be the #2, and he's not seen as a realistic candidate for #1 duties next year -- what does keeping him on the roster accomplish?Answer: I dunno. That's the real question here. The only thing I can come up with, is that there's real concern that Hackenberg is worse off than Macc anticipated and he's not expected to be better than #3 next year, leaving Petty to elevate to #2... but if that's not wild speculation 12 months ahead of time, i don't know what is... Conclusion: The #2 needs to be able to win games this year. Has to. This roster is too stacked. **these are just the opinions of one man. A great man, but just one nonetheless. Those ***s tell the story. Thats a great argument if you believe Petty would deliver less than Geno. I truly fear that like Mark before him the ptsd on Geno is simply too much, which is tragic because i love his arm and mobility. He simply looks uncomfortable all the time. To be clear, i am not partial to the view that Geno lacks intelligence or leadership (thought he was a great general at WV). However, his maturity wasnt where it needed to be to start immediately in the nfl and he made a lot of mistakes that might get forgiven in a sevond market city but just dont fly in this town. I hate that this has happened to two qbs of our in a row, but i think Petty has a lot of potential and is just as reasonable a long term project as Hack. Id rather diversify risk with them than let one go to keep Geno and it pains me to say that because i didnt want 7 to go the route of Mark... The guy has no leadership skills whatsoever. I had hoped that he matured some since last year but it didn't happen.

We all get Enkempali'd once or twice in our life - and it's also what usually makes a guy take a harder look at himself in the mirror. You don't accidentally get your ass handed to you. Yet this year - while he's not a rolling around camp on '24s - he still has too much fuck all dem haters bullshit going on for my liking. Getting handed the reigns in May - only to have them taken away in August was always going to be the test... and he hasn't really shown enough to say that he's genuinely in it for the team. Yet with all that said, i still wouldn't want to see Petty's vs 1s on Defense.

I respect everyones opinions and id like to throw in my two cents. I think Geno is getting traded.. or cut very soon. I too liked the physical potential..but this dude just brings bad vibes. Fans and players alike don't seem to wanna ride with him? Unfortunatly..this is a big town...you need to be somewhat P.C. and a leader... not wearing a NO FRIENDS hat..wtf is that? Are you a crying Puppy?
Anyway..Ill take my chances with Petty at #2. I see major differences and styles between him and Hackenberg. Loose comparisons...Petty reminds me of Favre...Hard headed gamer with big arm? Hack...very young.. Brady is his idol..very cerebral will play within the system to perfection? I know Geno isn't it, and depending on how this season goes Fitz may or may not be back. Ill take my chances with the two young dudes..

I have been saying some of the same things for awhile.....why dont any of his teammates seem to like him? I dont recall many pics of him hanging with teammates except for when marshall first got here and now even thats dead. Problem is Paradis makes a damn good point, as much as I'd like to run with the 2 young guns next year THIS YEAR it scares me to death to thunk of our season left to either one of them. If Fitz goes down or sucks ass we cant trust either of them and we cant bench Fitz until we are clearly out of it.

Is this the right time though?... Not so sure. If you roll out Petty week 3 -- what message does that send to the lockerroom? " Oh, you guys wanted to go to the playoffs?..."

If Geno plays this week in the fringe bowl, then he's gone via trade or cut at the final cut downs.
Seems like the Jets want to play him to showcase him for a trade.

Maybe Hackenberg or Petty breaks a nail this week and goes on IR so we dont have to worry about this stuff.
Belidick knows how to make these things work.

Meh....I'm not buying into this idea that the HC & FO won't roll with a backup who hasn't thrown a regular season NFL pass.
That's a media narrative. None of them know what the FO is thinking.
The SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS are going with a QB who has never thrown a regular season NFL pass as their STARTER....and their back up is likely going to be a rookie.
I wouldn't be shocked at all if Geno is a goner before the season starts.
