in today's journal there was an article about how teams have biased their slary caps toward defense or offense. the top 5 teams spending more of their cap on defense are; 1. broncos (59.1%), seahawks (56.4%), texans (55.7%), jaguars (54.5%), and chiefs (53.5%). the top 5 teams spending mosre of their cap on offense are: falcons (64.2%), panthers (63.7%), redskins (63.7%), saints (59.0%), and steelers (58.7%). it didn't list where the jets are but presumably they're somewhere in the middle. I can't whether the cap spend on one side or the other makes much difference since about 8 of those teams have had some good success in recent years. of course some of this is a function of team age and how much they've spent on their qb or other "superstar" players. I can imagine the broncos were biased the other way last season given manning's high salary and von miller in a contract year.
another point is the percentages don't look so daunting but when you look at the actual dollar amounts, it gets pretty significant. the broncos spend 24 million more on d while the falcons spend 34 million on offense. it would be interesting to see if the spend translated into either offense or defensive rankings.

According to over the cap, we are at 51.6% defense, 44.7% offense and 3.7% specials. What is killing us is the dead $$ and $$ on IR and PUP. We have over $8MM dead money and over $13MM on IR and PUP combined. $21MM for guys who can't contribute.

I would think the jets would be spending more on D but I guess some of those guys are younger and not making as much. Our O stinx other than Marahall and Mangold. Again, older dudes making more money. Interesting tho. The dead money sux.
