glad you made the cut fish
did not want to hijack the thread during the tension but i gotta share that yep, i think my shelf life for my present role has expired. lasted over 4 years this time, but the itch, it itches. i have that overwhelming disgust for the people around me on the job, even the good ones. it's like clockwork. the urge to quit and incinerate bridges via a blaze of glory, it nags. just had a layoff purge last week, they cut into muscle and even bone in some places, they cut all the fat last year. was disappoint a bit actually to not see the turk darken my doorway
i can't imagine being at one job for 6 years, forget about 30
yes there is something wrong with me. i could write a book

wow what the hell is auto correct doing What is Dice and how do you make sure your current company doesn't see your resume up there? Fish answered the one question but the other I can answer. I am one of 140,000 people globally in the company. IF HR was looking they wouldn't know my name from anyone else. Bosses don't look at resumes on Dice they go to recruiting firms who do that for them. Recruiting firms ask you before they submit you because if 2 recruiters put you in for the same job then most of the time the hiring company won't even talk to you because they don't want to get into a battle of 2 agencies. Finally if by some miracle my boss or his boss did notice I would say, "You might want to give me a raise now before someone else finds my resume".

Finally if by some miracle my boss or his boss did notice I would say, "You might want to give me a raise now before someone else finds my resume". A company that wants to hire you is going to call your company HR to check if you work there, as you said on your resume'. So it doesn't matter how much you keep your job hunt on the QT ultimately your current company knows or will know. When I left the job I had 2 yrs ago my mgr said we knew someone in the group was on the verge of leaving. Due to a sh!t hand, or actually deck, Ive been compelled to look for a new gig 3 years running. And that is after having tenures of 17, 6, 6 and 4.But too fing bad for them, nothing can stop you from looking for a new job, only non competes can impede it. Some states forbid or look down on those. The failing company I left 2 yrs ago that is now defunct (sold out to competitor) had the chutzpah to remind me of the noncompete as I exited. They were wound up within 6 months of that day. I wonder how some of these execs HR and legal people can sleep at night.

Congratulations on getting through the cut even though it sucks for your friends. Now you have to get on with the resume writing. Having been in the same place for so long makes it really difficult, knowing where to start. I would recommend not starting with using templates and trying to fit into them at least at first. Just start writing things down and once you get past the blank paper it gets easier. Once you have all sorts of information about yourself written down, you can start organizing and winnowing it. It's much easier to start condensing and removing once you decide what you want to highlight. And of course there are tons of helpful manual and courses etc out there. If you can spare an evening and get into the city the Science, Industyr and Business LIbrary branch of the NY library has a good series, with really good speakers on writing resumes. They go beyond the typical trite platitudes and offer actual helpful advice. One of the better ones is John Crantand another is Win Sheffield. He gives a useful framework of how to figure out what the heck you've been doing for the last 30 years and how to get it on paper. They are career coaches and they give these short talks to drum up further business but the free ones are enough. Good luck. Solid advice from both of you, absolutely. I plan on updating it this week, most definitely. I tried to work on it Sunday with football on in the background, and even though I could give a rats ass about the games going on, it was very difficult, pretty much the worst case of writer's block ever. Even thought our group is done taking the hit for the short term, I really want to know what their plan is moving forward. If they are going to move a subset of our jobs down south, who's to say they won't be looking to do that down the road? Can't trust the new CIO at all. They always bring in these guys from outside companies, they implement their vision, fuck things up all kinds of sideways, and then move on 5 years later. Then the next guy has a different vision and tries to fix it. Rinse, repeat, I've seen it many times here. My company really, really wants to be a cool company like Google, except they don't realize they are far too conservative and can never do it. They will implement things they see other companies doing, often too little too late. By the time they realize that maybe it wasnt the best move, other companies have already moved on to different things. I said this to crossfire last night, after my boss finally came out of his office, looking like death warmed over, he said by far today was the worst day he's ever had here, and he's been with the company 37 years, that says something. I'm kind of all over the place here, but the coffee is flowing. Want to thank everyone for all of the words and advice here, it's helped a lot. I like to think we are all friends here in rebooted Hangar bound together by our interest in NYJ. Im a lapsed Churchgoer but I don't completely lack faith, I don't mind saying I prayed for you because I know how devastating being turfed out is and I know the relief you feel now is palpable. When you are in an unstable work environment you need to channel extra energy to GTFO of it, do it for you and the sake of your family and everyone who depends on you (eg aging parents). Get your resume out on Indeed Dice Zip Recruiter Glassdoor put your contact info on LinkedIn indicate in your profile you are open to new opportunities and people will be drawn to you like flies on sherbet. No written disparaging comments re current job on GD LI FB not even here or Scout because employers scour those like ChiCom hackers. I sorry I can't hire you (not a mgr) I trying to exit my own situation but I can send you my resume just to show format and I glad to send you to some o' the recruiters I dealing with now. The new CIO is a hatchet man not to be trusted, he just cacked some good people .

From the last 8 years serving Big Tech: You have to get ahold of the latest "books" on "hot technology" (I know - heartwarming stuff) because the one constant is these hotshot CIO or Demand Generation technology directors sell the sizzle to get their shot. I found a copy of "Revenue Generation" or something and I realized I was reading all the buzzwords my current clients wanted implemented. So, if you can understand and help share their ideas easily, they will hold fast to you. Too bad they usually run out of money and patience and get canned.

fj is always looking; he's always an inch away from putting those vice grip hands on some mook's neck. HYATT burgers go well with his tales of hilarity

winter of shakin approaching
wifey just gave her notice from controller position at a well-known manufacturer, to take a dream job as financial controller for an established yet growing company -- working 100% from home. previous employer requested staying on through end of march to transition replacement -- also working 100% from home.
will be doing both, drawing two salaries. my urge to shit on multiple desks at work tomorrow is high my friends
