Petty hung in there after a slow start and very poor pass protection from his offensive line. It's the 49'ers I know, but congratulations to #9 on his first NFL win as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets. Now it's time to build on it and play well next Saturday. Also kudos to Bilal Powell and that skinny SOB Anderson for taking some big hits and still coming back to make some big catches. I know it drops the Jets in the draft, but a win feels good. Fuck the draft. There is no franchise QB to tank for. 3 or 6 or 10 doesn't matter. You only care when a franchise QB is there. A good CB or OLB or RB or OT or TE or whatever will be nice but won't change he franchise. _ Wrong. Cook or Fournette are game-changing players. Garrett, too. Learn the game of football.

I'm happy Petty was able to string together 2 quarters. Maybe he'll stick as a #2 in this league after all.
But boys... boys. Please. The next person who acts like that outlasting a 1-13 team is resume to build on anything needs to be shown the door. That was not a reason to believe we can look anywhere BUT the QB position.

Of course he is a known and convicted cereal cheater but that is beside a mute point.

Hope the kid is OK. While he made a couple of rookie/young player mistakes he definitely looked to be making better decisions and moving the ball well in the 1h. There were several drops too...
Ball placement isn't there yet but i liked how he responded to the question about that in the press conference. Kid has a great attitude would be a shame to lose his audition because the ol let him get maimed...

I wasn't sure he was going to have a job after this year, but he's putting out enough positive game tape that he may continue to hang here or elsewhere as a competent #2

This kid is constantly harassed within seconds of getting then snap. This team is shit and not a good vehicle to eval a young Qb in my opinion. I am not saying Petty is the answer at all either.

Petty is still a work in progress and makes rookie mistakes. I have to say that I saw improvement from last week, despite the loss. He has a big arm, is doing a lot better recognizing coverages and stood in there like a man under heavy defensive pressure w/o consistent protection from his offensive line. I haven't heard how bad he's banged up from that ferocious hit but saw him say that he's a little sore and wants to start next week.

Reading defenses, taking snaps under center, using his check down, etc. His inherent issues with accuracy, location/ball placement and general touch on passes has zero to do with oline. This is based on stuff that's been an issue day 1, oline/offense regardless. It's why he couldn't pass Geno on the depth chart and he was challenging Hack for worst QB in practices all year. He has to through 6 deep balls to Anderson to hit 1. He's missed about 5/6 touchdowns via over throwing/underthrowing balls.

I remember watching Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Big Ben in their first year as starters for their respective teams. All struggled with reading defenses, and with the passing game. Big Ben had the Bus and a hell of a defense and offensive line which pulled him through but the others struggled. I distinctly remember the Jets defense embarrassing a young Peyton Manning. The only rookie I saw knock it out of the park was Rainbow Tom Cum guzzelling fag....unfortunately. I'm not predicting Petty will evolve into any of the aforementioned QBs but in listening to him, he gets it. He's not a stumble bum like Kellen Clemmons who fell over his feet every time he tucked the ball to run or a mental midget like Geno. He has a strong arm, appears to have a high football IQ, doesn't place blame on others and has an evolving understanding the game. I hope the Jets get him some O line help, get rid of the dead weight/quitters for the 2017 season. I'm ok with Petty and Hack as the Jets QB tandem next year.

What i liked was that when asked if he needed more time with his receivers to develop chemistry he immediately shunned excuses and said it was completely on him. Was very hard on himself. That's leadership and more than you'd expect from someone in his situation. I sincerely hope he can play next week and keeps improving. Its not often we see a Jet qb get better at stuff (especially the mental stuff) game to game.
