Scouting and player evaluation is an imperfect science. The very best at it get it wrong a lot. Like others have said, this isn't on the scouts, it's on Maccagnan. He came up as a scout doing player evaluations, unlike Tanny and Idlzik who were bean counters, Mac is making these decisions with his eyes wide open.
What I would love to hear are those discussions surrounding the evaluation do Hackenberg. How many of those scouts were all on board with his second round grade? I can't imagine it was a unanimous decison.

The roster is at least as good as last year for the most part. Maybe a wash, at worst. Forte/Ivory, Clady/Ferguson. Can't really think of any true downgrades. But the playing and execution seem much worse. Some of the players (like on the DLine koff koff) have shown to be much better players in the past. We know they have talent. They are grotesquely under performing, individually and as a unit. And Revis dropped off a cliff. I screamed last year that his contract was way over the top, but I don't think anyone could have predicted how fast he would deteriorate. And I really blame that signing on meddling Woody It's the Fitz factor and our GM and HC going all in on him. Nobody wanted him and we're paying him $12 mil this year with a $5 mil cap hit next year. They're trying too build a win now team with Ryan 2016 Savior at QB....oh the ironing. Are you sure it wasn't Woody that wanted him? It just seems odd that a career football guy like Mac really thought carrying 4 QBs was a good idea.

imo it's not so much the overall talent but where it's centered. they got the greatest concentration of talent (and money spent) on the dline. this has not brought the domination against passing teams that it should have. the second highest is in the secondary. again these guys just aren't getting the coverage done right. as for what mac has done, he's built a win now team and is having some problems due to bad qb play and key injuries. imagine if decker were healthy, or mangold, etc. it all hurts. forte has done well but he still doesn't seem to be a guy who can punch his own holes like ivory. but if the oline could block to the second level then forte would be having a better game. hopefully they will be able to replace some of the older players and get a good season out of petty. right now people should be concerned about the benching of wilk and richardson. what is going on there? those guys are supposed to be the heart and soul of the defense. Yeah, Mo getting benched bothers me. sheldons an idiot. If it was just late for a meeting I would have expected him to answer questions and just say so. He dodged the press after the game. It's starting to look like Bowles has his hands full.

I don't think our young talent is as devoid as some think. We aren't filled with young stars, but we do have a few good young players, and a few who are trending in positive ways.
Start with Leonard. He's a star. Absolute stud. Both Winters and Johnson both appear to be starting caliber NFL OL. Neither is super young, but definitely have many prime years ahead of them.
All 3 WRs that have played this year have shown me definite flashes that they can be long term assets. Not Stars, but valuable players potentially.
I am in the big time minority here, but I also think Smith is still an asset. I've never seen a guy get shit on more because of a QB missing him so often. Then he gets hurt and everybody writes him off immediately.
I thought Lee really showed promise early and Jenkins has been solid but not spectacular.
This year is the year Mac really can go any direction he wants in the draft, and hopefully that turns into a few big time impact starters.

Hopefully we can trade Sheldon for a 2nd round pick after the season. Make RT Ryan Schraeder the #1 priority in FA if the Falcons let him walk. 1st round: RB Leonard Fournette - LSU 2nd round: CB Cameron Sutton - Tennessee 2nd round: OLB Solomon Thomas - Ohio State 3rd round: TE Evan Engram - Ole Miss That would be a pretty damn good start IMO.

1st round: RB Leonard Fournette - LSU Yes. However, knowing our beloved Jests, they will go on a run and finish 7-9 and earn the 14th pick. ![](http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o38/fishooked/NewHampur/RAGE0077_zps9796378f.png)

For the sake of relevance I'll stick to recent busts:
Dwayne Robinson DT; Vernon Gholston DE; Stephen Hill WR; and Jace Amaro TE;
Bust in waiting: Devin Smith WR
If any of the SOB's who drafted these guys are still on staff and collecting a check, they need to go, and quickly.

Hopefully either Petty or Hack If Macc chases Romo, Cutler or Tannehill...then my confidence in him will immediately drop to zero.
