He's really making a case to let Mangold walk this offseason. He's been pretty damn good since stepping in.
There was probably a decent chance Mangold was done with us anyway, but Johnson might be cementing that.

He's improved tremendously
Agreed that it may be time to move on from Mangold. Don't we save something like $8-9 million by cutting him after this season?
If that's the case, it should be a given.

Was thinking about the same thing -- he has been really solid, although how he would fare over a whole season remains to be seen, but his play is encouraging. The interior OL has been pretty good this season, in my opinion. Winters also looks like a solid player now. It is the play of the tackles that appears to be killing us, especially in pass protection.

Out interior OLine is something we can build around. Our tackles blow

Yup. Frees up $9 million if he is cut before next season. I love the guy. He has played his heart out for the Jets for the last decade, but if we decided it is time to rebuild and move on from him, so be it. That is just the business of football.

Yeah, if we save damn near $10 mill by cutting him then I think you have to move on.

Would there be any trade market for Mangold? Like maybe for a tackle?

Would there be any trade market for Mangold? Like maybe for a tackle? I would say any trade market, if there was any, would be for a low rd draft pick. Pry wouldn't get that though, in my opinion. Mangold is a warrior, but he's really starting to decline, especially with the injuries piling up.

Anyone got any idea how much cap space we would have if we cut the likes of Revis, Mangold, Breno etc?

Anyone got any idea how much cap space we would have if we cut the likes of Revis, Mangold, Breno etc? In what I'd say is a very realistic offseason possibility Cut Revis Cut Mangold Trade Richardson Cut Breno Cut Gilchrist That's about 35 million right there.

I was thinking the same thing. Johnson has stepped up and done a respectable job. Nick has had a great career with the Jets but it looks like father Time has caught up with him, and the $9M is needed to get younger.

I think we should look at Clady, Harris and Forte too. I'd definitely cut the first two. Next year should be a full rebuild and Harris deserves to sign with a contender if anyone will take him. Forte will definitely be here tho. We only save 1 mil if we cut him and he'll count for 6 mil in dead money.

I'm leaning towards sticking with Macc and Bowles and letting them have a full 5 years too sort this mess out. There are still a lot of Rex holdovers here and clearly these contracts have been structured to allow flexibility goin into this offseason. Dallas stuck with Garrett and the Raiders stuck with Mackenzie through some tough years before things got turned around soI think we have to do the same. Massive offseason again for Macc coming up.
