I've been saying this for quite some time, that this FO was going to spend a little money to try to be competitive this year, but they were really looking towards a slow rebuild.
They've done it with the DL and with the LB corps. Next year the draft will probably have a focus on rebuilding the OL and the secondary.
I'm pleasantly surprised with the young talent we have at WR. I think if we can stick with some of these young guys, J. Marshall, Anderson and Peake can be the base of a solid - but probably not spectacular - WR corps for years to come. Dominating WRs don't grow on trees and just when you think you have one, they can fall off the face of the planet (see DeAndre Hopkins), usually after you pay them big bucks.
RBs are a dime a dozen - I don't think we'll ever draft for RB and will continue with the fill the gap approach through FA.....it's a relatively sound approach. The running game has never really been our problem.
The biggest question remains then....how do we get a franchise QB. We lost out on Winston and/or Mariotta two years ago when we won a meaningless December game against the Phins.
This year.....we need to lose out. The problem is, we've got 4 teams to jump and one of them is the Browns....so getting the #1, #1 is probably out of the question.
The other question is.....is there a QB out there for us to take in the top 3-5?

The other question is.....is there a QB out there for us to take in the top 3-5? Nope. It's a very uninspiring QB class. We'll probably take one of the following Leonard Fournette RB (LSU), Dalvin Cook RB (FSU), Marlon Humphrey CB (BAMA), Sidney Jones CB (UW), or Mike McGlinchey LT (ND).

No QB worth taking. The Jets remaining schedule easily has two more potential wins, maybe even 3. I anticipate 5-11 or 6-10. MAYBE 4-12.

IMO a Pro football player would never "lose out" because a season is lost. Fans hope for it, but players would never intentionally do it.

Fitz would probably win more games than Petty, but there's no point in playing him anymore. Also maybe Burris can cut into some of Revis's playing time. It's time to evaluate our young players that might have a future here, and weed out dead weight.

Half the guys are auditioning every week trying to put tape out there.

I don't even think we have to try to lose out. We might do it on our very own. If you can't beat the Rams at home, who suck ballas and have essentially been traveling the entire globe the past two weeks, you just aren't going to win many games. Only other win is maybe the 49ers. Knowing our luck it will drop us to the 10th pick or some shit.

I sure as shit hope so
Tired of some bullshit, completely meaningless win at the end of the season taking us out of the running for a potential franchise altering player.
We just did the stupid shit two years ago with Rex against the Phins. I love Leo, but I'd sure as hell love having Mariota a lot more.
There's no elite QB prospects this year but if we keep losing, we walk away with a Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook or Jabrill Peppers.
We win a garbage game or two, and all of a sudden we're picking the 3rd ranked CB. But hey, beating San Fran was just swell. Totally worth it...

Needs to be mandated by the ownership. We have won far too many meaningless games in recent years which have really hurt us in the long run.

MAYBE 4-12. really? pats 2 times, dolphins will beat them again, bills will whoop the jets this time around, they probably won't be able to stop Luck and Hilton/Moncreif and i'd be seriously worried about going to SF and playing them there. not saying this team goes 3-13, but i don't know how a 3-7 team can think they have 2 more potential wins.
