Here's what the payroll looks like for the 2017 season. Some of the guys on this list ought to wear a mask when they pick up their check because their stealing from the team. See the higher end players, their 2017 salaries and my take on them. I realize there are other considerations like dead money, etc, but just based on salary do they go or stay for 2017?
Darrell Revis -- $15.3M (This greedy underperforming lump of crap needs to hit the road)
Mohammad Wilkerson -- $18M (I guess he has to stay. However, this was not money well spent)
Brandon Marshall -- $7.5M (Good bye no hard feelings but the Jets need to get younger and need the $7.5)
Nick Mangold -- $9M (You've been a great one, but it's time to go)
Eric Decker -- $8.75M (Decker stays)
David Harris -- $6.5M (Debated this one, he stays until a replacement can be secured)
Breno Giacommini -- $5.1M (Good bye - Go hold a sandwich somewhere)
Ryan Clady -- $10.5M (Beat it)
Marcus Gilcrist -- $6.6M (How in the world does this guy deserve $6.6M - See ya)
Buster Skrine -- $8.5M (Get the F--- out of town)
Nick Folk -- $3.5M (Expensive for a kicker, but unless a replacement can be secured, he stays)
James Carpenter -- $6.8M (Stays - Grudgingly)
Sheldon Richardson -- $8.0M (I would of signed Shelly over Wilkerson - Personally, I'd keep him but he is likely gone)
Steve McLendon -- $3.8M (Keep)
Calvin Pryor -- $2.7M (Keep)
Bilal Powell -- $4.6M (Keep)
Devin Smith -- $1.6M (Hope you invested your money wisely - Have a good life outside football)

Darrell Revis -- $15.3M (This greedy underperforming lump of crap needs to hit the road) - agreedMohammad Wilkerson -- $18M (I guess he has to stay. However, this was not money well spent) - injured this year imo, jury is outBrandon Marshall -- $7.5M - Stays, we dont have another number one receiver and we have gone too many years without one.Nick Mangold -- $9M - Stays, at a reduced/restructured salary. We are too weak in other offensive areas to get rid of the best player on the oline just yet. Eric Decker -- $8.75M (Decker stays) - agreedDavid Harris -- $6.5M (Debated this one, he stays until a replacement can be secured)- on the fence about this one.Breno Giacommini -- $5.1M (Good bye - Go hold a sandwich somewhere)- - agreedRyan Clady -- $10.5M (Beat it)- a foregone conclusion, I believeMarcus Gilcrist -- $6.6M (How in the world does this guy deserve $6.6M - See ya)- restructured or cut to come back at a lower salary. We cant get rid of everyone in the secondary to start fresh.
Buster Skrine -- $8.5M (Get the F--- out of town) - agreed
Nick Folk -- $3.5M (Expensive for a kicker, but unless a replacement can be secured, he stays) - agreedJames Carpenter -- $6.8M (Stays - Grudgingly) I actually like him, wish he was cheaper but - agreedSheldon Richardson -- $8.0M (I would of signed Shelly over Wilkerson - Personally, I'd keep him but he is likely gone) I cant wait until this greedy, overrated, loudmouthed piece of shyt is GHOST!Porky Pig McLendon -- $3.8M (Keep) - agreedCalvin Pryor -- $2.7M (Keep)- begrudgingly - agreed....if they teach his ass when to tackle and when to put a lick on someoneBilal Powell -- $4.6M (Keep) def - agreedDevin Smith -- $1.6M (Hope you invested your money wisely - Have a good life outside football)- still on the fence about him...he needs to get healthy so we can see what if anything he has to offer.

Darrell Revis -- $15.3M He needs to go. His inadequacies have caused a ripple effect on the defense this year, leading the team to play more coverage and blitz less. I am also not in favor of paying Revis to be the top paid safety in the league when he has never played the position and has shown no inclination to tackle. Mohammad Wilkerson -- $18M He has to stay. No one will take him in a trade and cutting him would cripple our salary cap. Let's hope this season was down due to injuries and the old Mo comes back next year. Brandon Marshall -- $7.5M This one is tough. There is no dead money to let him go, but he is durable and I think his leadership is going to be needed with a young QB. That being said, the smart play may be to cut Brandon and extend Quincy to a cap friendly deal. Nick Mangold -- $9M I'll see you in the ring of honor one day Nick, but 9 million is a luxury to pay a center on the wrong side of 30 whose body is breaking down. I'd let him go. Eric Decker -- $8.75M keep him. David Harris -- $6.5M another tough one. He is stil solid, but makes no game changing plays anymore. His contract isn't too bad. Breno Giacommini -- $5.1M Adios. Ryan Clady -- $10.5M GTFO Marcus Gilcrist -- $6.6M I don't think he is as bad as everyone else makes him out to be. 6 million is about the average salary for a veteran starting safety in the NFL. I'd probably keep him. Buster Skrine -- $8.5M This is a lot of money for a nickel back, but with Revis getting the heave, I'm not sure you can cut Skrine too. Nick Folk -- $3.5M I'd cut him and see if he wants to re-sign for less or get a replacement. James Carpenter -- $6.8M solid player for us. Keep him. Sheldon Richardson -- $8.0M So long Shelly. I'd trade him. Porky Pig McLendon -- $3.8M I'd keep him, he is cheap. Calvin Pryor -- $2.7M (Keep) Bilal Powell -- $4.6M (Keep) Devin Smith -- $1.6M keep Read more: newyorkjetshampur.com/thread/7013/2017-york-jets-goes-stays#ixzz4Ru7JM89u

I'm keeping Marshall. He's still a physical mismatch and if Decker is healthy, could repeat what they did last year.

He was great last year when he played the slot, can2t for the life of him play on the outside. So who's paying O line next year if Clady, Breno, and Mangold are gone? This is what the depth chart looks like without them?
LT Ben Ijalana Brandon Shell LG Dakota Dozier Craig Watts C Wesley Johnson RG Brian Winters RT Brent Qvale Donald Hawkins
I'm not saying they should not be cut for salary cap savings, but c'mon, you can't just gut the O-line without a plan. The Jets would have to seriously overpay an O lineman to come to the Jets, and the draft can not plug that many holes. In a word, the O line outlook is disastrous.

I can live with a battle between Shell, Qvale and Ijalana at RT. However, the Jets are going to have to make a serious run at Witworth on a short contract where they overpay him until they can draft or develop a LT.

In the initial post, he had Carpenter staying, but your point still relevant. Clady being a complete fail only adds to the point, as you can only say (loosely) that the Jets are "set" at guard. Let's hope Johnson or another young guy plays well enough to hold down C, then the Jets can replace the two tackle positions in the offseason (presumably one through FA and one through the draft).

Ijalana looked like he was wearing roller skates last night the way the Colt's D line was pushing him around. The Jets O line is in shambles with an aging Mangold showing his diminished capabilities. Mangold is suppose to be calling the line blocking schemes. On numerous occasions I saw him just standing there blocking no one while the Colts defense out muscled the Jets O line on their way to the Jets QB. In addition to his physical skill diminishing, he is not calling good games. I think it shows lack of preparation on his part and he's become just another guy picking up a big check. Sad.

I think the real question at this point is who stays? You have to reboot the entire O-line and Secondary as much as is possible (Revis probably cut if he doesn't retire...at the bare minimum he goes to S). Cut Folk. I could be talked into bringing back Pryor but holy ****, he has to go back to 0 and re-learn the fundamentals. On offense, Bring Back Marshall, Decker, Forte, Peake and Marshall.

You bet I'd get rid of both Marshall and Mangold. Don't fall into the trap of having favorites. If I've learned anything worthwhile from Belacheat and the Cheating Pats it's to move people when their skills diminish or their contract is not in line with their skills. While Marshall's skills are about the same when the Jets acquired him an argument could be made to keep him. However, what has he done to help the Jets this year? They would of won 3 games without him, so why give him a big contract for what will be another sub .500 year (2017-18)? Mangold is breaking down, not calling good coverages and is near the end of the road. However, a team which feels he could be a missing piece to the puzzle will want him for picks. As for Gilchrist, I didn't say he was terrible, he just makes too much money. The Jets could get an equal replacement for less than $6M. All I'm saying is if they are going to revamp the team, tear it down, because if you don't do it right the jets might as well keep going down the same path they are already on..
