The guy wasn't loved by all, but damn he was fun to watch. Our current DL is a ghost of that one. LOL at Munchberger hating on Gastineau because he was "celebrating" .

Compare his build to the overpaid, underachieving, fat slob on this year's team.

those early 80's Jets teams were awesome, how did they not win a Super Bowl? In part because of a Gastineau roughing the passer penalty against the Browns that kept them alive and helped the Browns advance to the AFC Championship game in 86/87?

That was my first season as a Jet fan. They came out of the gates at 10-1, then lost 5 in a row I believe. Pat Ryan beats the Chiefs in the playoffs, then the debacle in Cleveland. The rest of the time I have rooted for the team has been essentially captured by that 86 team.

He was great until they got him off the steroids, he went down hill after that.

Im convinced had they beaten the Browns, they would have beaten Denver, who they had already beaten that year, and wound up in the Super Bowl vs. the Giants.

I agree with that but as much as I hate the Midgets we would have had a real tough time winning that one.

What was particularly frustrating about that year is we had already beaten Denver in week 7 by a score of 22-10....Cleveland went on to lose to Denver after that debacle in Cleveland and Denver went to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Giants...could've been a subway Super Bowl.
