That's a little tid-bit that a LOT of fans forget. That goes for any team and any sport. I for one am glad that they used that top secret inside information to invest 12 million bucks in a washed up has been never was QB that no other team in the league wanted. Who just came off a career season. Not that I'm a fan of Shitzpatrick, but just sayin'.

#FUCKFITZ came off a career year and we didn't have a better option, end of story.
As far as the new OC pick being critical to his job security, I am starting to think Bowles isn't on as short a leash as the fans on this board like to think. I heard Woody speaking recently and he expressed a level of patience and confidence that was refreshing to see from an owner. (reminded me of when Jerry Jones spoke of Jason Garrett in the beginning when he sucked) He believes in his pick and is willing to forgo the media and fan panicking at the first bad season to see the plan through. One bad season, riddled with injuries and one fluke good season where the QB played way over his head and got lucky a hell of a lot with a shitty roster doesn't justify a knee jerk firing of the coach. That would have been idiotic and no decent coach would come here thinking (knowing) one bad season and he is gone.
Bowles gets a third season and possibly a fourth if they somehow find/display a promising young QB. All the wishing on this site and typing mad rhetoric won't change that.

Woody did sound committed to a full rebuild in his last comments....which leads to this point...
The Jets will likely be terrible again next season.....what sense would it make to fire him after next season with low expectations, when you could have fired him this season with fan support? A) you will not land a top coaching candidate firing coaches after 1 bad season, 2) All parties involved(Woody, Mac, Bowles) realize this is a multi season project and our regime will be given enough time to implement their plan.
I mean you went all out to get Casserly/Wolf's opinion to get this right and you can their picks after 2 seasons(10-6 first season)? Who do you ask to find you a coach this time around....dig up Vince Lombardi's grave and ask for his opinion?

Look at Dallas as an example. It was a long and painful process but now they have one of the best O-lines in the league. I doubt our defensive minded rubes will draft o-line. But we'll see.

I know that the OC search is not off to a good start. Two names, neither are going to be our OC(even though I don't think either had a chance to accept it). Now the search gets interesting, in my opinion. Too often coaches in Bowles position often turn to the security blanket of a retread coach in hopes that they can hang on for another season. In my opinion, this is a mistake, as these retread coaches are available for a reason, they failed once before. The fact that these coaches mentioned above don't seem to be coming here, Bowles may be forced to go out of his comfort zone and hire a young up and coming position coach or a successful college coach. While it won't be a big splashy name, in the end, it could be the best thing for him and the Jets. We need to find someone who is going to be innovative and offer something different. I'll be interested to see how it turns out. If Bowles just settles for some failed previous NFL OC, I think it will be the beginning of the end for him. The absolutely perfect offensive coordinator for the Jets is Richie Kotite. Can you imagine both Bowles and Kotite on the Jets’ sideline … The Jets down by 30 … Bowles’ blank stare … Kotite scratching his head and picking his nose. Just watching these two clowns may raise TV ratings. And New York football media … what they’d have to write about … Myers … Hondo … And Benigno’s Monday morning show would be fantastic! How could anyone take them seriously … it could actually be a blessing for long suffering Jets’ fandom. Only question is … who is a big enough clown to coordinate the defense.

Why would anyone want to be our OC? We don't have, or at the very least, aren't sure we have a QB. It's like expecting somebody to jump out of a plane and hope he finds a parachute on the way down. its still an NFL job.. OCing...in NYC...with lots money and the chance at more plus women...

Nobody and I mean NOBODY wants to be our OC. Who the fuck would want to be in the media capital of the world making near million dollars a year with a coordinator title one step away from head coach when they could be making $350,000 in fucking Peoria or Bumfuck. Lol. There are only 32 head coaching jobs in America and you'd give both nuts to get one. There are also only 32 offensive coordinator jobs in America and you'd give your left nut and half of your right one to get that gig. Anyone who thinks someone is going to turn down an NFL Offensive coordinator job in NY because it's the Jets is fucking crazy. _

Not to mention the fact that a LOT of these guys, when they get to this level, have a TON of confidence and can see themselves as the savior and if you make it big in the NY market, you're on top of the world Ma!

Atleast 4 people turned down the 49ers gm job... because there the 49ers. There's also only 32 of those, and people are not giving away there ball sack for it. Obviously someone will take the o coordinator job. But it's not ad desirable as you think. People like job security, they don't want to be looking for a new job the next offseason.

The best thing for Bowles job security is Woody taking the Ambassador job. Barring any complete meltdowns that land us the first overall pick he will be safe for the next couple of years.
