I think La Pen may pull this out. Shit, even Bridget Bardot is for La Pen. Don't underestimate the "patriotism" of the French. Is there a people of any nation more certain of their own superiority than the French?

As for your comment on patriotism I understand what you're saying but I wouldn't call it patriotism. On the geopolitical global scale, we do think and act like we're more important than we really are, no doubt. I think we have a problem in being just patriotic/proud of our country. America is on the other spectrum IMO where if you don't have a flag on your car or home it's almost weird. Here, until recently (read since the attacks) if you have a French flag on your car you're considered a fascist. It's bizarre. We have a hard time separating patriotism and nationalism since both have always been a halmark of Le Pen. Waiving a French flag has always symbolic the the National Front. |

Things are starting to turn here as well. USA chants and flag waving are beginning to be labeled as racism by the same people who see no issue with illegals marching waving their native flags demanding we accommodate them. The difference between the "Ellis Island immigrants" and the new wave we have seen the past 20 years or so is startling. The reason why we were so successful with immigration was because we did a good job of assimilating. Not so much anymore. Now we are more concerned with accommodating. Providing opportunity is shifting towards providing outcome. Interesting time to be alive. Even our working class and upper class have cozied up to cushy big government. But thats a tangent for another thread. |
