It. Cannot. Be. It just can't. _ I can hear it now. He gives us the best chance to win.....the same guy that has won 2 of his last 22 starts.

It didn't happen this year as we kept trotting out Fitz after we were completely eliminated. What makes you think next year will be different? Because they have to get a look at Hackenberg this year. It's undeniable. They essentially spent a Top 50 pick on him (#51) and just gave him a redshirt season. He's had a full calendar year to step back, regain some confidence, work on his mechanics, watch a 16 game season from the sidelines, digest an NFL playbook, etc. As soon as they signed a 15 year journeyman in McCown I would've phoned Hack and told him it's his job to lose. Maybe Hack is still a little too green to start against the Bills Week 1, but there's no doubt in my mind that he's behind center well before Halloween. Either due to injury to McCown or McCown's own shitty play. Flip a coin.

He was hurt early but he had plenty of opportunities to take over for Fitz down the stretch and rode the pine because Fitz gave us the best chance to win. I doubt they ever end up playing Hack unless both Petty and McCown get hurt, which is a real possibility.

I disagree Petty was a 4th round project who never had more than maybe a 10% chance of becoming anything more than a career backup to begin with. You take a QB #51 overall, and you're drafting him with the intentions of him being a starter sooner rather than later. The Jets had their shot at every QB not named Trubisky this year and passed. They'll want to see at least 8 games out of Hack before they start prepping for what is going to potentially be an absolutely stacked QB class. Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Falk...even Lamar Jackson... You could argue that every one of those guys would be ranked ahead of Trubisky/Mahomes/Watson.

I hope I'm wrong and he turns into the guy, just don't see it. I do agree about next year though. If Darnold, Falk, Rosen, maybe Allen, and Jackson came out this year Trubisky is a 2nd to 3rd rounder and Mahomes and Watson are going in the 3rd to 4th.
