All signs point to him being odd man out..might be making too much to be a hold the forter... The Jets overpaid for McCown (by some accounts, as much as $2M more than other teams were offering). The Jets did this because they need a veteran and mentor to young guys like Petty and Hack. The wide receivers are no different. Marshall is gone, the only true veterans left are Decker and Enunwa. IMO it's not a money or Cap thing with Decker. Sure, he's not cheap, but he fits in the financial plan for 2017 and his presence is sorely needed in the WR meeting room. He's not being paid in the hopes that he has a 1,000 yards and 10 TDs this year. He's being paid to be "the only adult in the room" during WR meetings and to teach a VERY young group of 21 to 23 year olds how to approach the game. Good article by Cimini. One of his better ones.

I agree with the idea of having a vet with the kids. I initially thought that he would be a cap casualty because he is getting older and the injuries are piling up. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought a veteran presence was needed. If you're only thinking of the Jets losing this year to get a QB next year, it may sound logical but the reality is that you want some of these young receivers to progress. Of course, that also plays into who the QB is going to be too. If our 3 QBs all suck, it isn't going to be easy for the receivers not to suck regardless of any veteran presence.

There will be a reason to start watching. That's what you are saying, right, Cross?
