Of course I know what a clip is. Do you need more than one shot to kill a deer/animal? Because if you do, you shouldn't be hunting. One shot, one kill Totally serious. _

Hunters out for deer routinely pump 30 rounds into said deer because it makes it really easy to clean them when trying to harvest the meat.

First thing I would say is the second amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Its about being able to fight back against tyrants.
Plenty of hunters use AR-15s. They are also excellent for farmers and ranchers who need them to ward off predators or feral hogs from their livestock.
Although I would prefer a shotgun or handgun in this scenario but for home defense you can make the argument that because it is so easy to shoot and has little recoil the AR-15 can be better suited for the wives, girlfriends or weaker males who might struggle with the kick of a shotgun.

Funny we're talking gun control...this nimrod could only get ahold of paintball guns. Could have been worse.
FTR, I'm a 2nd Amendment guy who believes more stringent controls and longer waiting periods are fine..and I see no reason for fully auto's to be available to anyone but the military.

I'm a gun owner and I too believe in stringent controls and longer waiting periods. Took me a while to get my license in NJ which was fine. Automatic weapons have been illegal since 1986. Military and a few very special collector cases. _

Didnt the Vegas shooter use one? Maybe one of the real gun-buffs here can speak on it. Seems there's tightening that could be done in that area? Edit; Just saw there is a bill stalled in congress banning bump-stocks (Vegas Killers method). Here's where it gets muddy, with both the NRA and the politicians looking bad.

Glad to hear the NRA is backing off its ferociously defensive stance for once. The NYPD Sergeants Union also came out calling for the bill to pass, for whatever that's worth. In my opinion, the NRA has made it too easy to demonize gun owners with its inflexibility.

Its the old slippery slope, you give in on bump-stocks, then the left smells blood and goes for magazine restrictions on the semi-auto's again. I get the NRA mag ( I had to join as a membership requirement to a range) and some of the political rants therein verge on lunacy. I wish there were a middle ground, but I'm not going to pretend to know how to find it. After the SandyHook shootings, Cuomo knee-jerked a hastily drawn bill through Albany that outlawed the magazines I, and thousands of others, including the local cops here carried. Active, Uniformed Cops...were now technically criminals, as was I. They eventually amended it after the uproar, but this is the sort of ill-conceived legislation the NRA is afraid of....one dick (Cuomo) riding on the back of a tragedy to fuck law-abiding gun-owners in virtually the of an eye.

Their biggest fear-rational or irrational depending on your view- is the enactment of a national gun registry- mandatory federal registration of all existing guns. Then a nut job gets the big desk, signs an executive order somehow circumventing the 2nd amendment and says "if we only had a list of every gun I could send storm troopers out there to confiscate them- oh wait, we HAVE that list." _

Therein lies the problem. Have to meet their opponents with equal force and rigidity. A technique that has also taken root in other political issues.

But it becomes an issue way lower down the chain than that. Some loony activist working for a gubmint agency gets access to the list and leaks it to a newspaper who would be more than happy to publish the names of the law abiding gun owners so the rabid anti-gun people can harass and shame them. Or worse. I think we did see something like this happen after Sandy Hook.
