Ok, so I am going to lay out the basic info and ask a simple question. I will then sit back and try to make sense of the answers.
I love the Jets, have done since the early 80's. I am English, so easy access to the NFL only really came about in the mid 2000s to late 2000s.
I pretty much know all of the rules of the game, more than some refs it seems, but I know little about the history of the NFL.
One question has been eating away at me for the last 3 years that I just can't answer.
Can a Head Coach really be this good in a franchise based sport without cheating?
BB started in the NFL in 1975 but his supposed greatness was not spotted until 2000 when he joined the Browns.
He spent 5 seasons there pretty much tagging an average WvL column as most HCs do. He did however get to one divisional game in that time.
Pretty much his stats at the end of this stint look like any average HC in the NFL
Then he took a job with the Jets. Now I know about the controversy about this and to be honest who truly knows what went on behind the scenes? Not me.
The he takes over the Pats and after one season in which he posted a terrible record suddenly becomes the messiah of the NFL.
Since that sub par year he has never posted a season under .563, has only lost the AFC East title twice in 16 years.
He has won the AFC Championship 7 times and the Superbowl 5 times and quite possibly a 6th time.
I the NBA, NHL and MLB there hasn't been a team which has even come close to their success barring the Lakers and even they have had bad years in between wins and still havn't posted the success rate of the Pats.
No matter which WR, TE, DB, MLB, SS, QB, RB and so on they draft, it seems like a hit. That is until that player moves on.
Which brings me back to my original question. Can a Head Coach really be this good in a franchise based sport without cheating?
