Maxwell is my #1 choice at CB regardless of whether Quinn is the next HC or not. And if Quinn is the next HC, I wouldn't mind signing Walter Thurmond either who should come cheap.
Carpenter is a decent starter. Not much more. He flashes, but way too inconsistent. He does however offer the flexibility to also play RT.

Byron. Maxwell.
We should get him even if you were hired as HC....

Anyone got the PFF grade on Carpenter? At 25 and starting for an excellent offense I'd assume he's doing well. Iupati is going to cost major bank as the clear top FA OG this season so I'd be interested in knowing whether Carpenter is like 90% of what Iupati is or like 60%. It's kinda hard to judge the OLine in Seattle given that Marshawn Lynch is a terror that runs everyone over and Wilson is constantly scrambling around. Good rushing numbers and low sacks may actually NOT be the best indicator of how good that OLine is. I dunno, just thinking out loud.

Fuckin Beast Mode (and he deserves that damn name if anybody ever did) and grease Russel make that line better no question about it. Russel has to scramble quite a bit actually, not sure if it's by design but you better be careful throwing big money at that!

That is a very fair argument, for example the Jets signed Breno from the Seahawks, and yet many are displeased with his ability and would even prefer bringing in competition for him to be replaced already. Perhaps he looked better due to the reasons discussed above?
Fun fact to ponder: Pro Football Focus grades out the Jets O-Line as the 13th best in the league.
Second fun fact: Nick Mangold was the 4th runner-up for their offensive lineman of the year award. I wish he could be cloned. He would have made a fantastic realistic dark-ages Thor.

I actually think the Jets have a decent road map at the interior of the OLine. Willie Colon is obviously in need of a serious upgrade but I think both Aboushi and potentially Dakota Dozier could be the future at OG, with Winters continuing to push but likely becoming a backup. I'm not saying I'd be comfortable heading into 2015 with those 3 guys vying for the two OG spots; I'd still like to see a youngish FA brought in (Iupati would be great but $$$$$), but I do think there's some developing talent on the interior OLine. Hopefully Mangold can hang on for several more years but I do think we're going to have to start thinking about our next LT sooner rather than later. D'Brick is still very good, but not great. I'm trying to tell if he's slipping or not. We don't want to extend him at exactly the wrong time, just as he's starting to decline. Breno is a hold-the-fort kinda guy in my opinion. He's not bad but he's certainly not a strength of the OLine. Who knows, maybe Dozier is his eventual replacement in 2-3 years? Dozier started 44 games at RT at Furman, but I like the idea of him potentially rolling into the RG spot first. Thanks for the info on PFF. I didn't think our OLine was bad, but I also didn't think they'd be rated as high as 13. One thing that tells us is, if we had a better than average OLine and still end up about 28th in total offense in the NFL....then how bad was our QB, skill positions, and coaching???

There are actually a number of decent options out there.
Besides Maxwell, there's Kareem Jackson, Brandon Flowers, Chris Culliver, and of course Revis (and maybe even Cromartie) who would all be good upgrades. With our cap room, we pretty much must land one of these guys if not two depending on whether the new regime sees a potential #2 starter on our roster.

How ironic would it be if we bring back cro and revis after we fire Rex lol. Not saying that would be a sound plan at all but just funny haha

Revis would be exactly the kind of piece Bowles would go for as well. Longshot at best, but yeah, it would be pretty damned ironic.
