If you take away the Darnold pick, what's the 2018 draft look like? It looks like a bunch of players that will NOT help the Jets win games in 2018. That's actually another one my most prominent criticisms of him? He never drafts players that are ready to contribute to winning games in their rookie seasons. Did Darron Lee help us win games in 2016. No. His play was so poor the rest of the defense had to pick up the slack for him. Mac has no requirements for winning this year. He gets to do whatever the fuck he wants with no repercussions if things go bad. This is another reason why I so firmly believe the Jets are in for another 5-11 season.

We could debate who belongs where on the list, but for me the real problem is the overall lack of talent Mac has brought in? He's self described as all in for the BPA. Well, all I can say is his BPA are not very talented players overall. Leonard Williams is a good player, but is he anywhere even close to JJ Watt? Not even close. Unless their rookie seasons deceived me, we'll be saying the same things about Maye and Adams? Good to decent, not anywhere near great. This is why the Jets are going to be a bad team for 3 years running. His drafting is OK, not good. If I'm rating his drafting, he's certainly better than Idzik, but clearly not as good as Tanny? Tanny drafted Revis, Harris, Mangold, Brick, Wilkerson. At their best, not a single Mac pick compares. This article has Darron Lee 8th and yet this guy has yet to defend a single pass in two years in the league. He's no better than a 5th round draft choice at best. Bottom line is until the drafting improves substantially, the Jets will always be 5-11. Mac just isn't a good GM. Wow. Just reading that list was brutal. BRUTAL. I think you're being too easy on Macc. He's the worst GM in the league. Just because he's better than Idzik and Kotite when he was Coach/GM (passing on Warren Sapp and taking Kyle stone hands brady) doesn't mean he's good. I know you are saying he's not a good GM, but I think he SUX at being GM. Again, how many players in the Top 100? One or none. His plan A to sign Kirk fucking Cousins? He's a moron and should be fired before the season starts. They have no talented skill position players. No pass rush. No nothing. That's on the coffee addicted four eyed mumbling fool. I can see what you're saying, but I think you're being too hard on him. Williams, Adams, and Maye are all decent players. He deserves credit for that. He's placed his entire reputation on Sam Darnold. That takes balls to do. I admire that. The problem with all of that is that it's not going to result in a winning record in 2018 - let alone playoffs.

So, I'm speculating that no matter how bad Mac sucks or does not suck at drafting, he has bought himself at least another 2 years by drafting Darnold.

Way too early on the '17 guys. Some might even argue its too early for the '16 guys but I think the clock is sped up these days. Seems like there are shorter leashes and less development time throughout the league. The draft is only one part of the equation. Have to also take a look at what he has done in FA and contract extensions. The Revis and Wilkerson contracts are the obvious black eyes. But he also played tough with Fitzpatrick only to cave in the 11th hour with Fitzpatrick missing valuable offseason work. I dont think anybody expected Fitz to duplicate his 2015 season but the whole contract mess made matters worse in my opinion. I would give Mac a D overall. The good news for him is if Darnold pays off nothing else matters and he is a hero. Its that simple. Shithouse to penthouse. disagree: he'll be seen as getting lucky with Darnold in a field of bad decisions. Plus, between Darnold and Big Cat, hard to screw up when players fall in your lap, so his record is definitely tainted

I did read an interesting article in the Pats approach to scouting and drafting college players.

And that is how you and I will grade him. Not sure the typical fan will be as harsh.

You're right, my bad. The Pats didn't take him until the sixth round. They probably had every teams draft board that year and saw someone had him slotted in the 7th.

Also, the Pats didn’t want to pay high a higher salary if he was drafted earlier.

You can't fire him after Darnold sucks in his rookie year. That's why he's not concerned with rookies contributing to winning. He gets to sit back on his fat ass and collect paychecks.

I really hate to keep changing Head Coaches but this guy has to go. I’m not sure who is or will be available but sooner rather than later. There better be some results from Mac or he can hit the road too. I’ll give Tanny one thing, he wasn’t afraid to go get people snd the Jets were the talk of the NFL with Tanny and Rex. I really liked Rex and thought he was the Jets guy for a decade. The first two years with Rex were action packed and fun just coming up short of a SB. Then, the roof fell in....
