Why trade for him when we can just sign him in the offseason?

Only because you love Dick. Usually I hate Dick, but this time Dick really hit the spot.

Trade a high draft pick then sign him for an excessive salary then watch him phone it in for the next 2 years until the Jets unload him for a 5th round pick.

NO. We are not good enough to give up the picks and the money for one player or position. We need a lot of help. Im torn but the help never comes the Jets brass will never draft a Bell. They pass on Dalvin Cook for a Safety on Alvin Kamara I think this is only chance they will get to get a player of Bells calibur. The Jets will draft a defensive player before they would go after a game changer like Bell. This team does not have a balance approach they draft defense sign defense then find scrubs for the offense. Darnold will probably be out of NY in 5 years if this team doesnt start addressing the offensive side of the ball

No thanks. Didnt he diss us this past offseason? Not really He responded to some Jets fan on Twitter saying he wouldn’t play for the Jets for $60 million. Well, he essentially turned down $70 million from the Steelers. I’d still love to have him. He’d be amazing for Darnold’s development. One of the most patient RB’s I’ve ever seen and is a fantastic receiver. Both out of the backfield and split out wide. He’s a guy who can give you 1200-1300 yards on the ground and another 600-800 through the air. He’s basically a bigger Marshall Faulk.

Bell would be shit behind this OL. I think that's why he's dead set against coming here.

The fact that Bowles has basically done nothing to address that "celebration", to me, is one of the biggest indictments of his coaching time here.

You've ever heard of the average lifespan of a RB in the NFL today? Pass. He would be junk after year 2.

RBs do typically fall off the cliff production wise anywhere from 1800-2000 total carries statistically, and an average age of 29.. he's got a little over 1200 carries in his career so far and he's 26, so yeah, unless he's a freak of nature, he's probably got 2-3 top seasons left before the decline? Right when Sam is hitting his stride.
And that aside, fun fact - in 2017, the Green Bay Packers' backfield of Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, and Ty Montgomery averaged exactly the same amount of yards per touch in 2017 as Bell, with the same number of average defenders in the box (6.8), and only 2 and half less touches per game. And they did it for a lot less money. 7 times less money.
For reference, Crowell is averaging 4.6 yards per touch and Powell 5.9 per touch in 2018 so far... you can piece together an affordable RB stable and not have to pay the top guy, and get similar performance.
