At $10M per year, no Cap hit for releasing him, and only giving up a 6th round pick instead of a 4th, I think a new GM will say bye bye to Harvin and try to build the Jets from the ground up. You could be right. And hell, if Peyton decides to hang it up, I think there's a realistic possibility that Demaryius Thomas decides to test the market. And if we decide to get rid of Harvin, we suddenly have around $64 million to spend. Cut some additional dead weight like CJ, Babin and Cumberland and that number moves closer to the $70 mill mark. More than enough to sign 2-3 upper tier free agents and a few mid tier guys. Signing Thomas and Iupati and then adding a CB like Maxwell and upgrading the LB corps would be amazing. I would be completely in support of the Jets letting Harvin go for Demaryius Thomas... Same with Dez Bryant, though I can't imagine either making it to FA, but I would guess DT has a better chance.

You should have asked the question....What would Maccagnan do? Although not confirmed he should be the GM. I get that, but if Quinn becomes HC, I would bet his background with Harvin in Seattle would be a factor.

Idzik signed Harvin to save his job. Jets fans love Harvin but Unless he takes a paycut, I can't see him staying. The Bills have lots of cap room too so a move north for Harvin is a possibility unless Revis is cut free and sucks up a lot of Bills cap space.

I think one of the more interesting dynamics if Quinn does is in fact become the head coach will be how the situation with Percy Harvin is handled. Harvin was in Seattle and obviously Quinn knows him and his situation well, , it will be interesting to see if the team moves on from Harvin with Quinn's influence or if Harvin gets a new slate with Quinn, the Jets, and the new regime. If it was me I would drop harvin and use the extra cap money to woo Demaryus Thomas, Dez or Randall Cobb. At least one of them will test free agency.

I get that, but if Quinn becomes HC, I would bet his background with Harvin in Seattle would be a factor. I see your point and obviously Quinn would have some input because of the familiarity. Harvin and his willingness too restructure his contract is the deciding factor, and that decision lies with the GM. Personally, I hope we move on because of his injury history. Guy couldn't even stay healthy for the 9 games we had him and his injury history is well documented. Keep the 4th, lose the 6th, and spend the money elsewhere.

I think the plan with Harvin is simple and doesn't change regardless of who the new HC is. Ask him to take a pay cut and cut him if he doesn't

If you can get him to lower his contract to the $6M per year range, you keep him any happily surrender the 4th round pick.
If he baulks at the pay cut, you release him and swallow the 6th round price. Then you try (and probably fail) to resign him to a reasonable deal from the open market.

Harvin seems to me to be MikeT guy all the way. I have to say though I have no idea about the dollphags roster or cap situation.
Than again, probably neither does Mike T

I think you have to cut Harvin and try to re-sign him to a lower number. Honestly, I'm not even sure I want to give Harvin the same money I gave Decker. Harvin was with the Jets for 9 games and he suffered 2-3 injuries. That is only going to get worse as he gets older. I'd rather part ways and sign Torrey Smith.

Take a pay cut or cut him. I don't see how you can justify paying $10m for a guy who is the Mike Vick of WRs.

If you believed that his previous injuries were anomalies, there is an argument for keeping Harvin. He plays with real heart but he's fragile. My gut is that he will continue to miss a significant amount of playing time due to injuries. Not worth the risk at 10 million a year. At six million a year I could live with the injuries but someone out there will pay him more.

Great WR Free Agent class and we have money to spend. I like Harvin because he can be used everywhere but I would rather see a true #1 if we are going to spend that kind of money. If he would take a reduction to market value then I say keep him and get another WR as the #1. Some interesting names bolded. Not saying they are all #1s but they are interesting and young.

I think you have to cut him before the date that his compensation elevates to a 4th round pick. If the new GM wants any part of him then you can still sign him at more cap friendly price as a FA. Harvin isn't a must keep by any means.
