Like him or not, he was a legend.
ALL radio owes him a debt of gratitude.

Never listened to him but seeing how much the libs hate him makes me wish I had. The former manager of our large AM station here in Charlotte is a member at my golf club. He clearly stated professionally that Rush Limbaugh was the most important figure in Radio and second place is Howard. The national audience he had pre-Sirius XM was untouchable by the general masses. he was an entertainer at heart.

I thought he died in ‘74. Did they name a cheese after him?

Arguably he was the man responsible for saving AM radio. It was saved? Yes, he pretty much gave AM radio new life using the current talk, news info format. AM radio would of withered and would not be where it is today if it continued with a music format. I’m not saying it would of disappeared completely.

I’m not saying it would of disappeared completely. Yeah but where is it today? I think it is very popular. Stations like WLS AM and WBBM AM are very popular in Chicago with the news/sports/talk format with syndicated and local hosts. As for music, you better switch to the FM dial or get a pay for service. I’m not sure if it still is this way but you use to be able to listen to WLS AM back in the day almost all the way to Florida if driving and pick it up in Florida in the evening.
