Not yet.
Planning on retiring at 60, then doing whatever I want.

Ask your wife, she'll tell you what to do.

and WTF do you do all day? Asking for a friend. I think we are VERY close in age and am a CFP for a living. I deal with this and these questions all day. I can retire, but what I do is enjoyable and lucrative. I am "merging" my business, collecting a fairly large check and will be basically working 20 hours a week. I must stay on for 3 years and then receive another check but I can leave anytime after that. I plan on becoming a single digit golfer, being fluent in Spanish and spend more time with my 2 (3 and 6) grandkids. I bought a house at the beach that they love to go to. I

I I think I'm a little older. Same situation. Cutting back hours. Only working on easier money projects with people who aren't assholes, but my heart just isn't in it anymore. Wife has the bloated union teacher retirement you hate so much. I can only golf so much. Do have the 1 grandchild who is a blast. But that leaves a whole lot of hours during the day.

Seriously, keep working part time doing something you like if you can. At least for the near future. You won't regret it. As for the rest of the time, keep in shape, enjoy your hobbies and interests, pay appropriate homage to the lady of the house and relax. It will be over sooner than you expect, so enjoy the ride to the cemetery.

He retired at 62, forced retirement. Sparkplug of a man, X-Marine. LOADED. I asked him about his retirement and with a gentleman southern accent said the following: They gently forced me out at 62 and I fought it. I look back now and if I could do it all again, I would have retired at 55. He of course is probably worth $30 million or so. We are all not that fortunate.

Anyhoo, it is a challenge to be face to face with the lovely bride (especially if she is retired as well). You cant miss someone if they wont go away. I hit the gym, try to walk an hour a day (that's 2 1/2 hours of me time right there). Also learned to play the bagpipes, which enables me to travel and retain a bond with a bunch of similarly inclined dickheads and get out and have a beer. Going out to meet some dickheads later to celebrate one of their retirements. I also do alot of stuff like laundry/shopping and other chores to take the load of the wifne who is now working from home (THANKS COVID ) Been trying to hit the driving range so I can retain some sort of dignity when I play with my sopne who has become a golf addict and pretty damn good (the fucker) Believe it or not, the day goes quick. I would def. emphasize the physical exercise aspect of it as it is easy to get into a funk and decline physically. Your body is used to 'working" after all these years and your health can really go into a tailspin unless you keep busy. Hope that helps. Congrats?

My wife won't LET me shop for groceries because I'll do it "wrong." LOLz I def. understand the exercise aspect. I basically sat in a chair for 35 years of work. If I don't exercise every day I start to freeze up. I guess I'm finding it hard to "shut off" the mindset I had working. I was passionate about my work as much as I hated it at times. Hard to change after doing something so long. Definitely gonna take an adjustment. People suggest volunteering, problem is I hate people.

Friend of mine volunteers at a horse farm that helps Vets and special needs kids. Something I've considered but I know they'll have me cleaning stalls and I'll be all like hey where all the Vets at?
