My company will be requiring the Covid jab in early October. If we don't comply we will be fired. No severance but I could collect unemployment for the first time in my life and take a shot a the many side businesses I have been putting off. I am 51 so not old but not young. I do have some FU money but it is hard to walk away from the salary and benefits I get. Early "retirement" where I work for myself on my time could be nice though. Some side projects I have considered are: Flipping houses Selling wood working projects Selling wood working plans online Selling CNC/Laser Cutting files online Selling my custom programs and scripts I have developed over the years If I hustle I could probably make ends meet with these in a year or 2. Could you do some sort of custom woodworking? Like where you would put peoples names on them? People love that stuff for weddings, etc. You could have a booth at local farmer's market type places. Hand hewn marionettes perhaps?

got tired of too much golf and while i love my woodworking shop i don't want to live in there either. have already met every drinking challenge that nobody actually challenged me with, and anyways this chapter of my health story could be called Liver's Revenge so there's that frankly looking for either a second career that i'd actually look forward to going to every day, or a part time job that i enjoy and in which i can use my exceptional charm and people skills
I lost interest in most of my hobbies after I got divorced. Turns out hobbies are only interesting when you need time away from wifne.

Welcome to my life. I avoid my wife like the little rascals running from the giant but I still end up annoying her. Thinking about picking something up too, just to get the fuck out of her way. When she commuted I was king of the castle, got things done, but by my own pace, had WFAN blasting, sports channels on the TV. Now I feel like I'm under a microscope, I have to hide with a little radio.... Now I'm starting to understand the 70 year olds I see re-stocking shelves in super markets. my son got propositioned/seshual comments by horny middle aged wives more than a couple times when he was stocking shelves as a teen. like wow they really said that? comments i think it was his genes they were responding to, not his age. so i'm thinking with me and those same genes maybe stocking shelves could work out. right? Turns out a lot of women troll HD looking for dudes. When I was teenager I had a job as a bag boy at a grocery store. We would carry the bags out to the ladies cars for a tip. Best tippers were waitresses and old ladies looking to cop a feel. They'd tuck the dollar deep in your pocket and grab a feel of your dick while they were at it. I mean a dollar back then could buy 2 or 3 gallons of gas!

I’ve got 10 more years til I can retire on my comfy university retirement with benefits. I can actually they the money in 5 years when I am 56, but not the health care until I’m 62, or else I’d be gone! Academia sucks My deal is a bit better. Old school state university defined benefit pension. Free health care after 20 years. Retire at any age after 30 years. I have 6 years eligibility I can buy in and it's expensive but worth it. I have 5 of the 6 already bought. I can retire with full benefits at age 55 but have these pesky kids that need to go to college. I'll probably retire from my university at 55 and then get another full-time job while drawing my pension until they're out of college. Double my salary that way. And cross my fingers my state doesn't go bankrupt before I die!

Nice! I thought I had a good deal! We have 403b that I’ve been socking 15% into for 21 years. I may see if I can strike a deal to teach half time online after 56 just to keep the healthcare til 62.

Between his health benefits and medicare he would pay nothing to stay in the hospital for weeks at a time. He got to enjoy that for 22 years. No way the state can stay solvent handing out deals like this.

just looking to get out of the house and see people, and also because mrs. shakin works from home now for another 5 years and my sitting and breathing is apparently raucously interruptive to her endless conference calls Welcome to my life. I had a good run too while she was working. Now that she’s retired I get little snide remarks about my daily activities (or lack thereof). This is pretty much why I started this thread. I need something to do.

I'm 28. Any advice on how to retire before I'm old like you all? I retired at 46 (less than 2 years ago). Best decision I ever made and don’t miss it for a fucking second. Not once. Never. And I didn’t even hate my job that much.

and WTF do you do all day? Asking for a friend. When you’re retired it helps to have an actual life. So, you’re screwed. 😂
